''Thirsty Work'' is the twenty-first studio album by English rock band Status Quo. It yielded three hit singles, "I Didn't Mean It" (No. 21), "Sherri Don't Fail Me Now" (No. 38), and the uncharacteristic ballad "Restless" (No. 39). "Goin' Nowhere" was released as a single in Germany. "Sorry" had originally been recorded by Demis Roussos and released on his 1980 album '' Man of the World'', with Francis Rossi and Bernie Frost on all instruments and backing vocals. Jeff Rich
Jeffrey Dennis Rich (born 8 June 1953) is an English rock drummer, best known for playing with Status Quo between 1985 and 2000. Early life Born in Hackney, London, Rich attended Upton House Comprehensive School, and whilst there he appeared in the opera ''Tosca'' at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Career Rich helped out Def Leppard in August 1986 and played alongside Rick Allen who had lost his left arm in a car accident in December 1984. However, during the band's warm-up tour of Ireland, Rich missed a gig and the rest of the band realised Allen could drum alone. Rich subsequently played with Stretch, Judie Tzuke and the Climax Blues Band. In late 1985, he replaced Pete Kircher in Status Quo. In April 2000 he left the group, citing exhaustion and family commitments. He was replaced on drums by Matt Letley. Andy Bown
Andrew Steven Bown (born 27 March 1946) is an English musician, who has specialised in keyboards and bass guitar. He is a member of the rock band Status Quo. Career Bown's first major band was The Herd, along with Peter Frampton. After The Herd dissolved he spent two years with Judas Jump who were the opening act of the Isle of Wight Festival 1970. He played eyboards at firstfor Frampton in the 1970s then switched to bass briefly when Rick Wills departed the Peter Frampton band in early 1975. Bown himself left the Frampton entourage less than a year later, just as Frampton was on the verge of achieving worldwide success. He went back to England where he first dabbled with a solo career (recording two solo albums for Bill Gaff's GM label, US Mercury), then resumed work with Status Quo whom he started playing keyboards for in 1973 as a session musician, including sessions with Jerry Lee Lewis on the London Sessions Album. John Edwards (musician)
John Victor "Rhino" Edwards (born 9 May 1953) is an English bass guitarist, playing in the rock group Status Quo. Career Born in Chiswick, London, Edwards learnt classical violin as a child and won a scholarship to the London College of Music at the age of eleven. He was educated at Chiswick Grammar School and Stinsford School, Dorchester. Around 1973–4, Edwards was to be found playing simultaneously in two pub bands in The White Bear in Hounslow (a venue renowned at that time as a music venue, where Rick Wakeman had been a regular player). The two bands were The Sunday Band (playing on that day of the week), playing covers of rock standards, and Rococo, with a regular Friday slot, and sharing the same singer as well as bass player. Rick Parfitt
Richard John Parfitt, (12 October 1948 24 December 2016) was an English musician, best known as a singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist with rock band Status Quo. Parfitt began his career in the early 1960s, playing in pubs and holiday camps. He joined Status Quo in 1967 when they were looking for an additional singer. He wrote songs for the band and remained with them for 49 years. He occasionally guested with other bands, and recorded an unreleased solo album in 1985. In 2016, Parfitt temporarily retired from touring with the band due to ill health, and died in December of that year. His only solo album, '' Over and Out'', was released posthumously in 2018. Tango
Tango is a partner dance and social dance that originated in the 1880s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. The tango was born in the impoverished port areas of these countries as the result of a combination of Rioplatense Candombe celebrations, Spanish-Cuban Habanera, and Argentine Milonga. The tango was frequently practiced in the brothels and bars of ports, where business owners employed bands to entertain their patrons. The tango then spread to the rest of the world. Jennifer Warnes
Jennifer Jean Warnes (born March 3, 1947) is an American singer and songwriter. She has performed as a vocalist on a number of film soundtracks. She has won two Grammy Awards, in 1983 for the Joe Cocker duet "Up Where We Belong" and in 1987 for the Bill Medley duet "(I've Had) The Time of My Life". Warnes also collaborated closely with Leonard Cohen. Early life Warnes was born on March 3, 1947, in Seattle, Washington but raised in Anaheim, California. Her desire and ability to sing came early; at age seven she was offered her first recording contract, which her father declined. She sang in church and local pageants until age 17 when Warnes was offered an opera scholarship to Immaculate Heart College. John David (musician)
John David (born John David Williams; 19 January 1946, in Cardiff, South Wales) is a Welsh bassist and songwriter known equally for his work with Dave Edmunds and for his songwriting. Biography He began his musical career playing drums in his father's dance band Avalon. By 1968 he was playing bass guitar and sang backing vocals in Edmunds' first major group, Love Sculpture, best remembered for their 1968 top ten hit single "Sabre Dance". At that time he used the name John Williams. After Love Sculpture split in 1970 he concentrated on studio and session work, songwriting and engineering, as well as collaborating with Edmunds on his number one single "I Hear You Knocking", playing bass, piano, and percussion.
