''Thirst'' (Spanish: ''La sed'') aka Hijo de Hombre, aka Choferes del Chaco is a 1960 Argentine-Spanish war film directed by Lucas Demare. It is set during the Chaco War (1932–35) between Bolivia and Paraguay, sometimes known as the "War of the Thirst". The script is based on a chapter of Augusto Roa Bastos novel ''Hijo de Hombre''. It was made as a co-production between Argentina Sono Film and the Spanish company Suevia Films. Lucas Demare
Lucas Demare (July 14, 1910 – September 6, 1981) was an Argentine film director, screenwriter, and film producer prominent in the Cinema of Argentina in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Biography At the 1943 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards, Demare won Silver Condor awards for Best Director, Best Film and numerous other awards for ''The Gaucho War'' (1942), a film which is considered by critics in Argentina to be one of the best films in its history. He won further awards including Best Film and Director for ''Su mejor alumno'' (1944) at the 1945 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards. He wrote and directed other films such as '' El cura gaucho'' (1941), ''La calle grita'' (1948), ''Mi noche triste'' (1951), ''Zafra'' (1958) and '' La Boda'' (1964). Hijo De Hombre
''Hijo de hombre'' (''Son of Man'', 1960) is a novel by the Paraguayan author Augusto Roa Bastos. Roa Bastos' first published novel, ''Hijo de Hombre'' represents his definitive break with poetry. It portrays the struggle between the governing élite and the oppressed in Paraguay from 1912 until 1936, just after the end of the Chaco War with Bolivia. This novel draws upon a system of Christian metaphors as part of the neo-Baroque concept of magic realism to examine the pain of being Paraguayan. ''Hijo de Hombre'' contrasts two figures: Miguel Vera and Cristóbal Jara. Vera narrates the odd chapters, although he might also be the narrator of all nine chapters (this is unclear). He is a well-to-do and educated romantic supporter of revolution, who is unable to take real action to support his ideals, and in the end betrays them (not unlike Judas).
