Angela Thirkell
Angela Margaret Thirkell (; , 30 January 1890 – 29 January 1961) was an English and Australian novelist. She also published one novel, ''Trooper to Southern Cross'', under the pseudonym Leslie Parker. Early life She was the elder daughter of John William Mackail (1859–1945), a Scottish classical scholar and civil servant from the Isle of Bute who was the Oxford Professor of Poetry from 1906 to 1911. Her mother was Margaret Burne-Jones, daughter of the Pre-Raphaelite painter Edward Burne-Jones, and through her, Thirkell was the first cousin once removed of Rudyard Kipling and Stanley Baldwin. Her brother, Denis Mackail (1892–1971), was also a novelist and they had a younger sister, Clare. The three Mackail children were, in their youth, treated first-hand to the fairytales of Mary de Morgan. Eric Thirkell Cooper
Eric Thirkell Cooper (18861960) was a British soldier and war poet during World War I. Cooper was born in 1886 in Beckenham, Kent. He served with the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), reaching the rank of Major. He published two collections of poems: ''Soliloquies of a Subaltern Somewhere in France'' (1915) and ''Tommies of the Line, and Other Poems'' (1918). In 1916, the English composer John Ireland (18791962) published settings of three poems from ''Soliloquies of a Subaltern'' for voice and piano: "Blind" and "The Cost" in a set called Two Songs; and, separately, "Lines to a Garrison Churchyard", under the title "A Garrison Churchyard". John Thirkell
John Thirkell is a British trumpet and flugelhorn player, who has appeared on hundreds of pop, rock, and jazz recordings. Through the 1980s and early 1990s he was on at least one album in the UK Charts continuously, without a break, for over 13 years. In 2009 he had two consecutive UK No.1 singles with Pixie Lott and was the first person to be inducted into the Musician's Union "Hall of Fame." In 2022 he scored his 27th No.1 album playing on Olly Murs " Marry Me". He is also known for playing with Level 42 in partnership with fellow Brit and saxophonist Gary Barnacle. Richard Thirkeld
Richard Thirkeld (died 29 May 1583) was an English Roman Catholic priest. He is a Catholic martyr beatified by Pope Leo XIII in 1886. Life Thirkeld was born at Coniscliffe, Durham, England. From Queen's College, Oxford, where he was in 1564-5, he went to Reims, where he was ordained priest, 18 April 1579. He left 23 May for the English mission, where he ministered in or about York, and acted as confessor to Margaret Clitheroe. On the eve of the Annunciation, 1583, he was arrested while visiting one of the Catholic prisoners in the Kidcote on Ouse bridge. He at once confessed his priesthood, both to the pursuivants, who arrested him, and to the mayor before whom he was brought, and for the night was lodged in the house of the high sheriff. The next day his trial took place, at which he managed to appear in his cassock, which made him appear all the more venerable.
