Thionville–Trier Railway
The Thionville–Trier railway (also called in German the ''Obermoselstrecke'', Upper Moselle line) connects Thionville in the French region of Grand Est with Trier in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It also passes through the westernmost part of the Saarland along the Moselle for a few kilometres. History The line was opened for traffic from Metz on 15 May 1878. It connected in Trier with the Saar Railway, which was connected to Luxembourg by the Trier West Railway and the Luxembourg–Wasserbillig line completed in 1861 and to the line from Cologne completed in 1871. The line ended in Ehrang and trains continued over the Trier West route from Konz, because Trier-West station was still Trier's main station. A year later, with the completion of the line to Koblenz, Trier Central Station (''Hauptbahnhof'', main station) was opened at its current location. The two stations that are in the Saarland, Nennig and Perl were built in 1927 or 1929. The railway line was par ... 15 KV AC Railway Electrification
Railway electrification systems using at are used on transport railways in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway. The high voltage enables high power transmission with the lower frequency reducing the losses of the traction motors that were available at the beginning of the 20th century. Railway electrification in late 20th century tends to use AC systems which has become the preferred standard for new railway electrifications but extensions of the existing networks are not completely unlikely. In particular, the Gotthard Base Tunnel (opened on 1 June 2016) still uses 15 kV, 16.7 Hz electrification. Due to high conversion costs, it is unlikely that existing systems will be converted to despite the fact that this would reduce the weight of the on-board step-down transformers to one third that of the present devices. History The first electrified railways used series-wound DC motors, first at 600 V and then 1,500 V. Areas with 3 kV ... Localities of the commune: Rudling, Kœnigsberg (German: Rudlingen, Königsberg) Language Revitalization Sierck-Les-Bains and other municipalities in the Moselle Department of France have attempted some limited projects to protect and revitalize the declining Lorraine-Franconian dialects which were historically spoken in the region. Bundesautobahn 8
is an autobahn in southern Germany that runs 497 km (309 mi) from the Luxembourg A13 motorway at Schengen via Neunkirchen, Pirmasens, Karlsruhe, Pforzheim, Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg and Munich to the Austrian West Autobahn near Salzburg. The A8 is a significant east–west transit route. Its construction began in March 1934 during Nazi rule as a ''Reichsautobahn'', the section between Karlsruhe and Salzburg having been completed by the time road works were discontinued in World War II. Although most parts have been modernized and extended since, significant sections remain in their original configuration from the 1930s - 2+2 lanes, no emergency lanes, steep hills and tight curves. In combination with today's traffic this makes the A8 one of the most crowded and dangerous autobahns in Germany. Especially in winter the slopes of the Black Forest, the Swabian Alb near Aichelberg, as well as the Irschenberg become bottlenecks when heavy trucks traverse the A8 uphill. ...
