Thi Bui
Thi Bui (born 1975) is a Vietnam-born American graphic novelist and illustrator. She is most known for her illustrated memoir, ''The Best We Could Do''. Biography Thi Bui was born in what was then Saigon, Vietnam three months prior to the Fall of Saigon during the Vietnam War. She is one of six children; two of her older siblings passed away prior to her birth. She and her family were part of the wave of "boat people" from Southeast Asia, arriving at a refugee camp in Malaysia. They were eventually granted asylum to the United States and migrated there in 1978. Career Bui has worked as a school teacher for years having worked in schools in New York City and Oakland. She was one of the founders of Oakland International High School in Oakland, California, the first public high school in California for recent immigrants and English learners. 2008 Cannes Film Festival
The 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival was held from 14 to 25 May 2008. The President of the Official Jury was American actor and director Sean Penn. Twenty two films from fourteen countries were selected to compete for the ''Palme d'Or''. The awards were announced on 24 May. The film '' The Class'' (''Entre les murs''), directed by Laurent Cantet won the ''Palme d'Or''. Bao Phi
Bao Phi is a Vietnamese-American spoken word artist, writer and community activist living in Minnesota. Bao Phi's collection of poems, ''Sông I Sing'', was published in 2011 and, ''Thousand Star Hotel,'' was published in 2017 by Coffee House Press. He has written three children’s books published by Capstone Press. First book, ''A Different Pond'' received multiple awards, including the Caldecott Award, Charlotte Zolotow Award, the Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature for best picture book, the Minnesota Book Award for picture books. Early life and education Bao Phi was born in Saigon, Vietnam as the youngest son to a Vietnamese mother and a Chinese-Vietnamese father. The Nib is an American online daily comics publication focused on political cartoons, graphic journalism, essays and memoir about current affairs. Founded by cartoonist Matt Bors in September 2013, The Nib is an independent member-supported publisher. Background Originally published on Medium, the platform underwent changes in May 2015 resulting in The Nib shifting focus and publishing less content regularly. In July 2015, Bors announced The Nib would no longer publish on Medium and stated he would take the title elsewhere. He self-published a collection of comics as a print anthology called ''Eat More Comics!: The Best of The Nib'' in September 2015.
