Alexander Amatus Thesleff
Alexander Amatus Thesleff (25 March 1907 Viipuri – 6 November 1983 ) was a Finnish diplomat and a lawyer. He was Head of the Administrative Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs 1958-1959 and Head of the Legal Department 1964-1966. He was an ambassador in Brussels and Luxembourg from 1959 to 1963, and in Dublin from 1962 to 1963. Ellen Thesleff
Ellen Thesleff (5 October 1869 – 12 January 1954) was an expressionist Finnish painter, regarded as one of the leading Finnish modernist painters. Thesleff was born in Helsinki, the eldest daughter of five siblings and her father was an amateur painter. She took private lessons and then, in 1887, studied for two years at the Finnish Art Society Drawing School (now known as the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts) with Gunnar Berndtson. In 1891, Thesleff moved to Paris and enrolled into Académie Colarossi. Thesleff spent all of her life in Finland, France, and Italy, visiting Italy first in 1894. In Finland, she had a family estate at Murole, Ruovesi. She never married. Thesleff took part in many big exhibitions in the 20th century, in particular, in 1949 her paintings were on display on a big exhibition of Nordic art in Copenhagen and were praised by media. Irma Thesleff is a developmental biologist and Professor Emerita at the University of Helsinki known for her research on the development of mammalian organs, especially tooth development. Education and career Thesleff received a degree in dentistry from University of Helsinki in 1972. For research her uncle, the developmental biologist , suggested she work on developmental biology of the mouth or the teeth because of her familiarity with the topic from her dentistry degree. She subsequently earned her Doctor of Odontology from the University of Helsinki in 1975 with research on cleft lip and palate. Rolf Thesleff
Rolf Thesleff (28 May 1878 Kuopio – 16 August 1938 Copenhagen) was a Finnish PhD on Philosophy and diplomat. Thesleff's parents were General Alexander August Thesleff and Emilia Mathilda Sanmark. He graduated from the Helsinki Finnish Normal Lyceum in 1897 and studied at the University of Helsinki completing Bachelor of Philosophy in 1902, M.Sc. (1904) and Licentiate and PhD in 1907. Thesleff was a shareholder and owner of a loan agency in Helsinki from 1907 to 1912, as an extraordinary teacher of agrarian policy at the University of Helsinki from 1912 to 1919 and as rapporteur secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications in the Senate of Finland between 1918 and 1919.
