Theri (film)
''Theri'' ( ''Spark'') is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under the banner V Creations. The film stars Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson. The film's music is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, with cinematography handled by George C. Williams and editing done by Ruben. In the film, a former police officer is on a mission to protect his daughter from his past enemies. The film marked Kumar's second directorial after '' Raja Rani'' (2013), whose success impressed Vijay to work with the director. Atlee came up with the script, which was an "emotional action thriller film" and a formal announcement was made during September 2014. After post-production works and a formal launch ceremony in June 2015, the film began production in Chennai during early July. ''Theri'' is the soundtrack album composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar for the 2016 Tamil action film of the same name, written and directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by S. Thanu, starring Vijay. Pulamaipithan, Na. Muthukumar, Pa. Vijay, Kabilan, Rokesh, R. Thiyagarajan and Arunraja Kamaraj wrote the lyrics for the songs. The album was launched on 20 March 2016, and received positive reviews from critics. Production This film marks the second collaboration of G. V. Prakash Kumar with both Atlee and Vijay, after '' Raja Rani'' and ''Thalaivaa''. In addition, the album also marked Prakash's 50th film as a music composer. In November 2014, During the pre-production phase, Prakash started working on the film's music soon after his inclusion in the project. ''Thero'' (commonly appearing in the masculine and feminine forms ''thera'' and ''therī'' respectively) is an honorific term in Pali for senior bhikkhus and bhikkhunis (Buddhist monks and nuns) in the Buddhist monastic order. The word literally means "elder". These terms, appearing at the end of a monastic's given name, are used to distinguish those who have at least 10 years since their '' upasampada'' (higher ordination).
