There It Is (film)
''There It Is'' is a 1928 silent black-and-white comedy short directed by Harold L. Muller and starring Charles R. Bowers. Plot summary The plot centers on Charley MacNeesha, a Scotland Yard detective who carries a stop motion-animated bug assistant called MacGregor in a matchbox. The pair travel to New York City to investigate the "Fuzz-Faced Phantom", who causes full-grown chickens to hatch from eggs, pots to float across rooms, and pants to dance of their own volition. In 2004, the film was named to the National Film Registry by the Librarian of Congress for its "cultural, aesthetic, or historical significance". Charles Bowers
Charles R. Bowers (June 6, 1887 – November 26, 1946) was an American cartoonist and slapstick comedian during the silent film and early "talkie" era. He was forgotten for decades and his name was notably absent from most histories of the Silent Era, although his work was enthusiastically reviewed by André Breton and a number of his contemporaries. As his surviving films have an inventiveness and surrealism which give them a freshness appealing to modern audiences, after his rediscovery his work has sometimes been placed in the "top tier" of silent film accomplishments (along with those of, for example, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd). In comic style, he probably modelled himself after both Harry Langdon and Buster Keaton and was known to the French as "'' Bricolo''." Biography The son of Dr. Charles E. Bowers and his wife, Mary I. The National Film Registry (NFR) is the United States National Film Preservation Board's (NFPB) collection of films selected for preservation, each selected for its historical, cultural and aesthetic contributions since the NFPB’s inception in 1988. History Through the 1980s, several prominent filmmakers and industry personalities in the United States, such as Frank Capra and Martin Scorsese, advocated for Congress to enact a film preservation bill in order to avoid commercial modifications (such as pan and scan and editing for TV) of classic films, which they saw as negative. Kathryn McGuire
Kathryn McGuire (December 6, 1903 – October 10, 1978) was an American dancer and actress. Early life Born in Peoria, Illinois, McGuire was said to be recognized by critics and fans alike as one of the rising stars in film. Selected one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in 1922, she was the first person in her family to enter the acting profession. At an early age, McGuire's family moved to Aurora, Illinois, and then to Chicago. McGuire received her education from the Jennings Seminary in Aurora, and remained there even after her parents left that city. By the time she graduated at about the age of fourteen, her parents were ready to move to California. McGuire was highly interested in dancing, and took classes under the leading ballet masters when she arrived in California.
