Theophilus Jones (historian)
Theophilus Jones (18 October 1758 – 15 January 1812) was a Welsh lawyer, known as a historian of Brecknockshire. Life Theophilus Jones was the son of Hugh Jones (d. 1799), vicar of Llangammarch and then Llywel, Brecknockshire, and a prebendary of the collegiate church of Brecon; and his wife, Elinor (d. 1786), daughter of the historian Theophilus Evans.Roberts 2004. For many years he practised as a solicitor in Brecon. The death of his father gave him an additional degree of financial security, and following his appointment as deputy-registrar of the archdeaconry of Brecon, he sold his business in 1808 to have time to write. Jones married Mary Price in 1783. He died on 15 January 1812, and was buried in the church of Llangammarch; his widow died on 22 July 1828. Theophilus Jones (soldier)
Sir Theophilus Jones, (circa 1606–1610 to 1685) was an Irish soldier and government official of Welsh descent. One of five sons born to Lewis Jones, Bishop of Killaloe in the Church of Ireland, he formed part of a close-knit and powerful Protestant family. A grandson of James Ussher, head of the Church of Ireland from 1625 to 1656, in 1648 he married his cousin Alicia Ussher, another of his grandchildren. Of his four brothers, Henry and Ambrose were also bishops in the Church of Ireland, while Michael and Oliver were senior soldiers and politicians. Little is known of his career prior to the Irish Rebellion of 1641 when he fought in the Irish Confederate Wars, first with the Earl of Ormonde's Royal Irish Army, then later under Oliver Cromwell. Theophilus Jones (1666–1742)
Theophilus Jones (2 September 1666 – 14 March 1742) was an Irish Member of Parliament. He sat in the House of Commons of Ireland from 1692 until his death in 1742. Theophilus Jones (1729–1811)
Theophilus Jones (1729? – 8 December 1811) was an Irish MP and administrator. He was born the eldest son of Walter Jones of Headfort and Olivia, the daughter and coheiress of the Hon. Chidley Coote of Coote Hall, County Roscommon. He served three periods as MP for County Leitrim in the Parliament of Ireland, sitting from 1761 to 1768, 1776 to 1783 and 1790 to 1800. He also sat for Coleraine (1769 to 1776) and Monaghan Borough (1783 to 1790). He was appointed secretary to Augustus Hervey, 3rd Earl of Bristol when the latter was Chief Secretary of Ireland in 1766, holding the post until 1799. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 1767 and Collector of Excise at the Port of Dublin from 1767 to 1799. Theophilus Jones (Royal Navy Officer)
Theophilus Jones (September 1760 – 8 November 1835) was an Irish officer in the British Royal Navy. As a captain, he commanded a series of warships during the French Revolutionary Wars, and experienced two mutinies during his command of HMS ''Defiance'' in the late 1790s. He was promoted to the ranks of rear admiral in 1802, vice admiral in 1809, and full admiral in 1819.
