Theodorus Marinus Roest
Theodorus Marinus Roest (14 April 1832, Dongen – 2 September 1898 Baden-Baden) was a Dutch numismatist and conservator of the numismatic collection of the Teylers Museum. In 1872 he was appointed ''associé étranger'' of the ''Sociéte royale de numismatique'', and became publisher of ''Reveu de la numismatique belge''. He became an authority on numismatics. In 1876 he became director of the Academisch Penningkabinet in Leiden. In 1881 he resigned when that cabinet was absorbed into the '' Royal cabinet of medals'' (which today is part of the :nl:Geldmuseum in Utrecht). Through the efforts of the archivist of the city of Haarlem Adriaan Justus Enschedé, Roest was hired to catalog the collection of the Teylers Museum. Enschedé had been a member Teylers Tweede Genootschap since 1876 and was a coin collector himself. Dongen
Dongen () is a municipality and a village in the southern Netherlands. In the past it was home to a profitable leather industry, to which a few old shoe factories in the town's older sections still testify. Teylers Tweede Genootschap (English: Teylers Second Society), also known as the ''Wetenschappelijk Genootschap'' (Scientific Society) is one of the two societies founded within the Teylers Stichting with the purpose to promote and award prizes for research. They were the result of the testament of the Dutch 18th-century merchant Pieter Teyler van der Hulst. The Second Society is focused on art and science, while the First Society is focused on theology. The Duchy of Guelders ( nl, Gelre, french: Gueldre, german: Geldern) is a historical duchy, previously county, of the Holy Roman Empire, located in the Low Countries. Biography Adriaan Justus was the son of Christiaan Justus Enschedé and his wife Adriana Maria Dalen. He attended the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem and studied law in Leiden, whereupon he joined the family business in Haarlem and brought historical typefaces back into fashion. He became city archivist in 1857 where he wrote an inventory of the archives, still useful today.
