Theodore Jantjies
Theodore Jantjies is a South African actor best known for his starring role as ''Xander Meintjies'' in the SABC2 soap opera 7de Laan. Biography Early life Theodore was born in Heidelberg in the Western Cape. In 2002 he matriculated from Kairos Secondary School and went on to study theatre at Northlink College in Cape Town. In 2004 he completed his diploma in Performing Arts. He started his professional career in theatre in 2005, as one of the leading characters in ''Die Keiser'', to critical acclaim and was nominated for an award for his portrayal. After that followed ''Kanna hy ko Huistoe'' at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town and many others. Career He made his television debut in the e.tv sitcom ''Madam and Eve'', which was followed by the e.tv primetime soap, ''Scandal!''. ''7de Laan'' is a South African Afrikaans soap opera created by Danie Odendaal and produced by Danie Odendaal Productions. The series focuses on the lives of residents staying in and around the community of 7de Laan (7th Avenue), in the suburb of Hillside. The programme's dialogue is primarily in Afrikaans and is subtitled in English with some English and Zulu dialogue in between. The street and shopfronts which are featured on the opening visuals, are that of Seventh Street in Melville, Johannesburg. History Odendaal originally conceived of the series when he was a resident of the Melville section of Johannesburg. At the time, Odendaal would watch the people of his community over breakfast and a cup of coffee at his favourite coffee shop. He would make up fictitious characters based on what he saw. The Baxter Theatre Centre is a performing arts complex in Rondebosch, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. The Baxter, as it is often known, is part of the University of Cape Town; it is also the second largest performing arts complex in Cape Town, after the Artscape Theatre Centre. Vinette Ebrahim (born 21 February 1957) is a South African actress and playwright known for her role as Charmaine Meintjies in the SABC 2 soap opera '' 7de Laan.'' She is the sister of actor Vincent Ebrahim. Early life Ebrahim is the sister of South African-British actor Vincent Ebrahim. Her brother, six years her senior, named Ebrahim after himself. Ebrahim's father worked as a teacher in Woodstock, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa, as well as an actor, writer, and director. In the late 1950s, he moved the family to Coventry, England, to work as a stage manager. The family later returned to South Africa. Career Ebrahim has stated that she learned acting "on the hoof" in Cape Town, working as a stagehand, actor, and other jobs in the theatre. Cape Coloureds () are a South African ethnic group consisted primarily of persons of mixed race and Khoisan descent.
