Theodor Berger (May 18, 1905, Traismauer - August 21, 1992, Vienna) was an Austrian composer. Berger studied with Franz Schmidt at the Wiener Musikakademie (now the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna) from 1926 to 1932. Franz Schmidt, also Ferenc Schmidt (22 December 1874 – 11 February 1939) was an Austria-Hungary, Austro-Hungarian composer, cellist and pianist.Franz Schmidt (1874–1939) and Dohnányi Ernö (1877–1960): A study in Austro-Hungarian Alternativ. The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (german: link=no, Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, abbreviated MDW) is an Austrian university located in Vienna, established in 1817. Gustav Heinrich Ernst Martin Wilhelm Furtwängler ( , , ; 25 January 188630 November 1954) was a German conductor and composer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest symphonic and operatic conductors of the 20th century. He was a major influence for many later conductors, and his name is often mentioned when discussing their interpretative styles. Furtwängler was principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic between 1922 and 1945, and from 1952 until 1954. He was also principal conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra (1922–26), and was a guest conductor of other major orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic. Although not an adherent of Nazism, he was the leading conductor to remain in Germany during the Nazi regime.
