Thenzawl
Thenzawl is a census town in Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram. It is an important center for the traditional Mizo handloom industry. Thenzawl is 90 km (56 miles) from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. History Thenzawl was a dense forest with many wild animals until it was cultivated in 1961 and inhabited. Bengkhuaia Sailo established a village in 1863 in Thenzawl. Kamlova's son, Lalngurchhina was the last chief of Thenzawl. Due to the March 1966 Mizo National Front uprising, Thenzawl was a village where people were grouped together in 1968. Geography Thenzawl is located at . College Of Horticulture Thenzawl
The College of Horticulture Thenzawl is one of the constituent colleges of the Central Agricultural University. It is in Thenzawl in the state of Mizoram. History Sharad Pawar, during his visit in 2011 had promised to set up a horticulture college in Mizoram. The site was approved in July 2015. The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh laid foundation stone of the College of Horticulture in 2016. Serchhip District
Serchhip District is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. The district occupies an area of 1421.60 km². Serchhip town is the administrative headquarters of the district. This district came into existence on 15 September 1998, being carved out of the larger Aizawl District. Because of the way it was created it includes part of East Lungdar Tehsil and part of Thingsulthliah Tehsil. As of 2011 census, it has the highest literacy rate in India, and is the second least populous district of Mizoram (out of 8), after Saiha. Vantawng Falls
The Vantawng Khawhthla is located south of Thenzawl in Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram. It is one of the highest waterfall in Mizoram. It is about away from Aizawl. The falls Vantawng Khawhthla or Vantawng Falls is the highest and most spectacular of the waterfalls and cascades in the fast flowing rivers of Mizoram. It is located in Vanva river near Thenzawl and is named after Vantawnga, who was said to be an excellent swimmer. So good a swimmer was Vantawnga that he could hover in the cascading water like a fish, but unfortunately, during one of such performances, a drifting log fell from above and killed him. Tuirihiau Falls
The Tuirihiau Falls is located south of Thenzawl in Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram. The falls Tuirihiau Falls Khawhthla or Tuirihiau Falls is the most spectacular of all the waterfalls and cascades in the fast flowing rivers of Mizoram. It is located in Vanva river near Buangpui. Mizo Language
The Mizo language, or ''Mizo ṭawng'', is a Kuki-Chin-Mizo language belonging to the Tibeto-Burman family of languages, spoken natively by the Mizo people in the Mizoram state of India and Chin State in Myanmar. The language is also known as Duhlian and Lushai, a colonial term, as the Duhlian people were the first among the Mizos to be encountered by the British in the course of their colonial expansion. The Mizo language is mainly based on Lusei dialect but it has also derived many words from its surrounding Mizo sub-tribes and sub-clan. Now, Mizo language or ''Mizo ṭawng'' is the ''lingua franca'' of Mizoram and its surrounding areas and to a lesser extent of Myanmar and Bangladesh and in India in some parts of Assam, Tripura and Manipur. March 1966 Mizo National Front Uprising
The Mizo National Front uprising was a revolt against the government of India aimed at establishing a sovereign nation state for the Mizo people, which started on 28 February 1966. On 1 March 1966, the Mizo National Front (MNF) made a declaration of independence, after launching coordinated attacks on the Government offices and security forces post in different parts of the Mizo district in Assam. The government retaliated and recaptured all the places seized by the MNF by 25 March 1966. In the initial response of the government operations to suppress the rebellion in 1966, the Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes in Aizawl; this remains the only instance of India carrying out an airstrike in its own civilian territory. Counter-insurgency operations continued over the next two decades, although the intensity of the rebellion diminished over time progressively. Mary Winchester (Zoluti)
Mary Winchester, or Zolûti to Mizos, (1865–1955) was a Scottish girl who was captured and held hostage by the Mizo tribes of Mizoram, India, in 1871, and rescued by the British expedition in 1872. This historic event marked the beginning of British rule in Mizoram that lasted until the Indian Independence in 1947. Indirectly, it also paved the way for Christian missionaries to introduce Christianity among the Mizos. Kidnapping Mary Winchester lived with her father at Cachar, Assam, India.
