''Theertha Yathra (The Pilgrimage)'' ( si, තීර්ථ යාත්රා) is a 1999 Sri Lankan Sinhala drama thriller film directed by Vasantha Obeysekera and co-produced by Chandran Rutnam and Ashoka Perera. It stars Joe Abeywickrama, Channa Perera and Yashoda Wimaladharma in lead roles along with Chandrasoma Binduhewa and Samson Siripala. Music composed by Rohana Weerasinghe. It is the 922nd Sri Lankan film in the Sinhala cinema. The film was selected by National Film Corporation (NFC) for screening at the Cairo International Film festival in 1999. Vasantha Obeysekera
Vasantha Obeysekera (1937 – 2017), was a Sri Lankan film director and screenwriter. Early life and career Kala Keerthi Vasantha Obeysekera who was regarded as one of the foremost film makers in the 70s decade graduated from the University of Ceylon in 1962. He served on the Editorial Staff of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited from 1964 to 1970. In addition to his editorial work, Obeysekera wrote several short stories during this period. Obeysekera entered the film industry with ''Sath Samudura'' in 1967 which he co-wrote and worked on as assistant director; it was Sri Lanka's entry at the Moscow International Film Festival. Bandula de Silva Vithanage (born 11 September 1940 – died 1 September 2014 as බන්දුල විතානගේ) inhala was an actor and director in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television as well as a translator, director, playwright and script writer. One of the earliest pillars of Sri Lankan art and drama, Vithanage has produced several critically acclaimed television serials and stage dramas during his five decades of drama career. He is the pioneer to introduce Shakespearean theater to Sri Lankan theater with several plays such as ''Veniciye Velenda'', ''Macbeth'', ''Twelfth Night'', ''Hamlet'' and ''Romeo and Juliet''. Wilson Gunaratne (born March 9, 1949, as විල්සන් ගුණරත්න inhala is an actor and comedian in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television. He is most notable for the role ''Kodithuwakku'' in television comedy sitcom ''Nonavaruni Mahathvaruni'' and stage drama ''Charitha Atak''. It is the only stage play in Sri Lanka in which one actor portrays eight different characters with eight different voices. Chandran Rutnam is a Sri Lankan filmmaker and entrepreneur. Rutnam has hosted numerous Hollywood films for their location shoots in Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
