Chinese Theatre
Theatre of China has a long and complex history. Traditional Chinese theatre, generally in the form of Chinese opera, is musical theatre, musical in nature. Chinese theatre can trace its origin back a few millennia to ancient China, but the Chinese opera started to develop in the 12th century. Western forms like the spoken drama, Western opera in Chinese, western-style opera, and ballet did not arrive in China until the 20th century. History Theatre in China dates back to as early as the Shang dynasty (16th century BC?– 1046 BC). Oracle bone records reference rain dances performed by shamans, while the ''Book of Documents'' mentions shamanistic dancing and singing. For the Zhou dynasty ( 1046 BC – 256 BC), evidence from the ''Chu Ci'' suggests that in the 4th or 3rd century BC Chu (state), State of Chu, shamans performed with music and costumes. Shanghai Opera
Shanghai opera (), formerly known as Shenqu (), is a variety of Chinese opera from Shanghai typically sung in Shanghainese. It is unique in Chinese opera in that virtually all dramas in its repertoire today are set in the modern era (20th and 21st centuries). This arose from Yue opera's dominance in Shanghai in the 1940s. ''Huju'' is particularly popular in Baihe, the oldest town in the Qingpu District of Shanghai. There are eight to ten ''huju'' ensembles in the Baihe, and many local residents hire these ensembles to perform for weddings and funerals. ''Huju'' is accompanied by traditional Chinese instruments, including '' dizi'' (transverse bamboo flute), ''erhu'' (two-stringed fiddle), '' pipa'' (pear-shaped lute), ''yangqin'' (hammered dulcimer), and percussion. Shanghai Grand Theatre
The Shanghai Grand Theater () is a complex located at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Huangpi Road South in the northern part of the People's Square in the Huangpu District of Shanghai. The building houses the Shanghai Opera House and other performing companies. Shanghai Concert Hall
Cadillac·Shanghai Concert Hall is located on the intersection of Yan'an Road and South Tibet Road of Huangpu District, Shanghai. It was founded in 1930 as Nanking Theatre. In 1949, its name was changed to Beijing Cinema. In 1959, it was renamed Shanghai Concert Hall. The hall can accommodate 1,122 seats, 640 on the ground floor and 482 on the second floor. The stage is 8.35 metres by 16 metres, covering around 100 sq. metres. The Concert Hall was designed by Chinese architect Fan Wenzhao (范文照) in European style. In order to make way for Yan'an Elevated Road, the hall was relocated in 2007. The project embarked at 10 am on April 15, and cost 50 million RMB. Liaoning () is a coastal province in Northeast China that is the smallest, southernmost, and most populous province in the region. The Harbin Grand Theatre or Harbin Opera House () is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China.
