''Theatre Royal'', aka ''Lilli Palmer Theatre'' is an Anglo/American half-hour television anthology series hosted by Lilli Palmer. It was the first ITV play series; and was first transmitted on 25 September 1955, with the televised Dickens episode, ''Bardell v Pickwick''. Thirty-four episodes aired in the UK on ATV London in 1955–56. Fourteen episodes aired in the US from 1955–56. Lilli Palmer
Lilli Palmer (; born Lilli Marie Peiser; 24 May 1914 – 27 January 1986) was a German actress and writer. After beginning her career in British films in the 1930s, she would later transition to major Cinema of the United States, Hollywood productions, earning a Golden Globe Award nomination for her performance in ''But Not for Me (1959 film), But Not for Me'' (1959). Other notable roles include in the comedy ''The Pleasure of His Company'' (1961), the Spanish horror film ''The House That Screamed (1969 film), The House That Screamed'' (1969), and in the miniseries ''Peter the Great (miniseries), Peter the Great'' (1986), which earned her another Golden Globe Award nomination. Wilfrid Hyde-White (12 May 1903 – 6 May 1991) was a British character actor of stage, film and television. He achieved international recognition for his role as Colonel Pickering in the film version of the musical ''My Fair Lady'' (1964). Early life and career Wilfrid Hyde White was born in Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire, England in 1903 to the Rev. William Edward White, canon of Gloucester Cathedral, and his wife, Ethel Adelaide ( Drought). He was the nephew of actor J. Fisher White. He attended Marlborough College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, of which he said, "I learned two things at RADA - I can't act and it doesn't matter."
