The ¡Alarma! Chronicles
The ¡Alarma! Chronicles is the name of a short story written by Terry Scott Taylor. The story was originally included in four albums released by the rock band Daniel Amos. Part one was included in their 1981 release, '' ¡Alarma!'', part two was included in their 1983 release, ''Doppelgänger A doppelgänger (), a compound noun formed by combining the two nouns (double) and (walker or goer) (), doppelgaenger or doppelganger is a biologically unrelated look-alike, or a double, of a living person. Terry Scott Taylor
Terry Scott Taylor (born May 24, 1950) is an American songwriter, record producer, writer and founding member of the bands Daniel Amos and The Swirling Eddies (credited as Camarillo Eddy). Taylor is also a member of the roots and alternative music group, Lost Dogs. He is currently based in San Jose, California, U.S. Taylor is highly regarded for his songwriting skills. These often include allusions to and reworkings of material ranging from Elizabethan poets to modern authors. Foremost among Taylor's influences is William Blake. The Daniel Amos album title '' Fearful Symmetry'' was drawn from Blake's poem "The Tyger," and numerous songs across The Alarma! Chronicles series of albums have Blake-inspired references. Some other poets who have influenced Taylor's work are T. S. Eliot and Christina Rossetti. Eliot's poetry inspired the song "Hollow Man" from the ''Doppelgänger'' album. Daniel Amos (aka D. A., Dä) is an American Christian rock band formed in 1974 by Terry Scott Taylor on guitars and vocals, Marty Dieckmeyer on bass guitar, Steve Baxter (musician), Steve Baxter on guitars and Jerry Chamberlain on lead guitars. The band currently consists of Taylor, guitarist Greg Flesch and drummer Ed McTaggart. Over the band's career, they have included keyboardist Mark Cook, drummer Alex MacDougall, bassist Tim Chandler and keyboardist Rob Watson (musician), Rob Watson with sounds that experimented with country rock, rock music, rock, New wave music, new wave and alternative rock. ''¡Alarma!'' is the fourth studio album by Christian rock band Daniel Amos, issued on Newpax Records in April 1981. It is the first album in their '' ¡Alarma! Chronicles'' series and one of the earliest records in the Christian alternative rock genre. Background ''¡Alarma!'', released weeks after the band's Beatles- and Beach Boys-influenced ''Horrendous Disc'', took a decidedly new wave direction along the lines of Elvis Costello or Talking Heads. Lyrically, the album contains social commentary so harsh that ''CCM'' described it as "perhaps the most scathing ever put out by a Christian label." ''Doppelgänger'' is the fifth studio album by Christian alternative rock band Daniel Amos issued on their own Alarma! Records label in 1983. It is the second album in their '' ¡Alarma! Chronicles'' album cycle. Content ''Doppelgänger'' is much darker than the album that preceded it, '' ¡Alarma!''. The album starts with the eerie backward sounds of "Hollow Man" (inspired by T. S. Eliot's poem, ''The Hollow Men''). Taylor's lyrics to "I Didn't Build it For Me", "Autographs for the Sick", and "New Car" were sharp attacks on televangelists, anticipating the Jimmy Swaggart/Jim Bakker/Robert Tilton scandals of 1987–88. ''Vox Humana'' is the sixth studio album by Christian alternative rock band Daniel Amos, released on Refuge Records in 1984. It is the third album in their '' ¡Alarma! Chronicles'' album cycle. Background ''Vox Humana'' was a much brighter album than its predecessor, ''Doppelgänger'', and included catchy, synthesizer-driven pop songs with lyrics about technology's role in American culture. "Travelog" was a song about a television-obsessed man "basking in the blue light". Danish author Søren Kierkegaard, Polish poet Czesław Miłosz, and Britons Malcolm Muggeridge and William Blake are all quoted in the liner notes of the album. DA also included a tribute to Blake with the ballad, "William Blake." "Dance Stop", a song condemning nuclear arms escalation, asked listeners to dance to the song and stop suddenly when the word "stop" is sung. ''Fearful Symmetry'' is the seventh studio album by Christian alternative rock band Daniel Amos, issued on Frontline Records in 1986. It is the fourth and final album in their '' ¡Alarma! Chronicles'' album cycle and the first of three albums the band issued under the shortened moniker DA. Background ''Fearful Symmetry'' is a lush, synthesizer driven pop album, lyrically wrapped in puzzles that the listener has to decipher. Nearly every song on ''Fearful Symmetry'' in some way deals with pain or darkness - from the William Blake-inspired "Sleep Silent Child", a song about death, to "Strong Points, Weak Points", a song about doubt. The album title comes from a line in ''The Tyger'' by William Blake. The album ends on an upbeat note however, with the touching ballad, "Beautiful One".
