The Zoo (Australian TV Series)
The Zoo is the Australian version of a New Zealand documentary television series of the same name. Centred on the lives of a zoo team at Taronga Zoo, New South Wales. The program is narrated by ''Sunrise'' co-host Melissa Doyle. The first series of 6 episodes aired on Sunday nights from 3 February to 9 March 2008. The second series moved to Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm from 21 October 2008 and finished on 18 November 2008. The 3rd series airing back on the same time slot as series 2 on 12 May 2009. A fourth season began with a special one-hour episode, ''Miracle At The Zoo'' on the birth of elephant ''Pathi Harn'' on 12 April 2010. Melissa Doyle
Melissa Jane Doyle (born 10 February 1970) is an Australian television presenter, author and journalist. She was previously co-host of the Seven Network's breakfast television program ''Sunrise'' from 2002 to 2013 alongside David Koch and host and senior correspondent of ''Sunday Night''. Doyle is currently host of ''Weekend Breakfast'' on '' Smooth FM'' and the Seven Network documentary series '' This is Your Life''. Early life and training Doyle attended Pymble Ladies' College. She studied communications at Charles Sturt University at there Bathurst campus and during her studies she was a broadcaster with on-campus community radio station 2MCE-FM. Career Doyles started her career, when she gained a cadetship at WIN Television's Canberra bureau in 1990, later becoming their weather presenter. The Seven Network (commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is a major Australian commercial free-to-air Television broadcasting in Australia, television network. It is owned by Seven West Media, Seven West Media Limited, and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. The network's headquarters are located in Sydney. As of 2014, it is the second-largest network in the country in terms of population reach. Taronga Zoo
Taronga Zoo is a zoo located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in the suburb of Mosman, on the shores of Sydney Harbour. The opening hours are between 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Taronga is an Aboriginal word meaning 'beautiful water view'. It was officially opened on 7 October 1916. ''Sunrise'' is an Australian breakfast show program. It is broadcast on the Seven Network, and is currently hosted by David Koch and Natalie Barr. The program follows '' Seven Early News'', and runs from 5:30 am to 9:00 am. It is followed by '' The Morning Show''. Elephant
Elephants are the largest existing land animals. Three living species are currently recognised: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. They are the only surviving members of the family Elephantidae and the order Proboscidea. The order was formerly much more diverse during the Pleistocene, but most species became extinct during the Late Pleistocene epoch. Distinctive features of elephants include a long proboscis called a trunk, tusks, large ear flaps, pillar-like legs, and tough but sensitive skin. The trunk is used for breathing, bringing food and water to the mouth, and grasping objects. Tusks, which are derived from the incisor teeth, serve both as weapons and as tools for moving objects and digging.
