The Yoga Institute
The Yoga Institute (abbreviated as TYI) is a government recognized non-profit organisation, known as the oldest organized yoga center in the world. It was founded in 1918 by Shri Yogendra (1897-1989), who was one of the important figures in the modern revival of yoga. It is headquartered at Santacruz in Mumbai, India. The Yoga Institute is certified by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India as the first authorized Yoga School to conduct government certified courses. It won the Prime Minister's Award 2018 by the Ministry of AYUSH for outstanding contribution in the field of Yoga in June 2018. The institute is run by Dr. Hansa Yogendra, who also serves as President of The International Board of Yoga. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is an Indian government ministry charged with health policy in India. The Ministry of Ayush, a ministry of the Government of India, is responsible for developing education, research and propagation of traditional medicine systems in India. Ayush is a name devised from the names of the alternative healthcare systems covered by the ministry: Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy. The Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H) was first established in 1995 under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Mark Singleton (yoga Researcher)
Mark Singleton is a scholar and practitioner of yoga. He studied yoga intensively in India, and became a qualified yoga teacher, until returning to England to study divinity and research the origins of modern postural yoga. His doctoral dissertation, which argued that posture-based forms of yoga represent a radical break from haṭha yoga tradition, with different goals, and an unprecedented emphasis on āsanas, was later published in book form as the widely-read ''Yoga Body.'' Singleton was a senior research fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, working on the European Research Council-funded Hatha Yoga Project. Modern Yoga
