The Woman Of Bronze
''The Woman of Bronze'' is a 1923 American silent drama film directed by King Vidor and distributed through Metro Pictures. It is based on a 1920 Broadway play by Henry Kistemaeckers (adapted by Paul Kester) which starred Margaret Anglin, John Halliday, and Mary Fowler. The film version is considered to be lost. Plot Vivian (Clara Kimball Young), a long-suffering wife, endures her artist husband’s infidelity with Sylvia (Kathryn McGuire), his young model. Leonard (Lloyd Whitlock) redeems himself when he recognizes the spiritual character of his wife. King Vidor
King Wallis Vidor (; February 8, 1894 – November 1, 1982) was an American film director, film producer, and screenwriter whose 67-year film-making career successfully spanned the silent and sound eras. His works are distinguished by a vivid, humane, and sympathetic depiction of contemporary social issues. Considered an auteur director, Vidor approached multiple genres and allowed the subject matter to determine the style, often pressing the limits of film-making conventions. Raymond Durgnat (1 September 1932 – 19 May 2002) was a British film critic, who was born in London to Swiss parents. During his life he wrote for virtually every major English language film publication. In 1965 he published the first major critical essay on Michael Powell, who had hitherto been "fashionably dismissed by critics as a 'technician’s director'", as Durgnat put it. His many books include ''Films and Feelings'' (1967), ''A Mirror for England: British Movies from Austerity to Affluence'' (1970), and ''The Strange Case of Alfred Hitchcock'' (1974). He wrote principally for ''Films and Filming'' (in the 1960s), ''Film Comment'' (in the 1970s) and ''Monthly Film Bulletin'' (in the 1980s), and taught at various art schools and universities, notably St Martin's College and the Royal College of Art, where his students included Tony Scott. The ''Moving Picture World'' was an influential early trade journal for the American film industry, from 1907 to 1927. An industry powerhouse at its height, ''Moving Picture World'' frequently reiterated its independence from the film studios. In 1911, the magazine bought out ''Views and Film Index''. Plot When John Woolfolk's wife dies in an accident, he vows not to open himself to future emotional harm. With a shipmate, Paul Halvard, he begins sailing around the world, coming to anchor near an isolated, dilapidated mansion on the Southern coast, inhabited by a young woman, Nellie Stope, and her grandfather, Litchfield, who lives in fearful seclusion after his experiences in the Civil War. ''Three Wise Fools'' (German title: ''Ein Mädchen und drei alte Narren'') is a 1923 American silent drama film directed by King Vidor. A print of the film exists at the Cinematheque Royale de Belgique. It showed in Germany at the Union-Theater Nollendorf, Berlin, on November 10, 1924. The cinema was built in 1913 by Joe Goldsoll, who was president of Goldwyn Pictures from 1922-1924. Plot Three elderly—confirmed bachelors all—are unexpectedly visited by a young woman who announces herself as the daughter of the lady that all three men had once been in love with.
