The Wild Swans (1977 Film)
is a 1977 Japanese anime fantasy film produced by Toei Animation, based on the Brothers Grimm's fairy tale ''The Six Swans'' and on Hans Christian Andersen's variation ''The Wild Swans''. The film was first shown in Japan on 19 March 1977 in the ''Toei Manga Matsuri'' (''Toei Cartoon Festival''). ''The Wild Swans'' represents the first entry in Toei's ''World Masterpiece Fairy Tales'' movie series, followed by ''Thumbelina'' (1978), '' Twelve Months'' (1980), ''Swan Lake'' (1981), and '' Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp'' (1982). Plot King Hildebrand is hunting in the woods when he gets lost and asks an old woman for help. The old woman promises the King that her daughter Greta can show him the way out if he agrees to marry her. Enamored by Greta's beauty, King Hildebrand accepts her proposal and takes Greta back to the castle with him. However, King Hildebrand has seven young children: six boys, and a girl named Eliza. The Six Swans
"The Six Swans" (German: ''Die sechs Schwäne'') is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm in ''Grimm's Fairy Tales'' in 1812 (KHM 49). It is of Aarne–Thompson type 451 ("The Maiden Who Seeks Her Brothers"), commonly found throughout Europe. Other tales of this type include The Seven Ravens, The Twelve Wild Ducks, Udea and her Seven Brothers, The Wild Swans, and The Twelve Brothers. Andrew Lang included a variant of the tale in ''The Yellow Fairy Book''. Origin The tale was published by the Brothers Grimm in the first edition of ''Kinder- und Hausmärchen'' in 1812, and substantially rewritten for the second edition in 1819. Their source is Wilhelm Grimm's friend and later wife Henriette Dorothea (Dortchen) Wild (1795–1867). Eiko Masuyama
is a Japanese actress and narrator. She works for Aoni Production. She is most known for originating the roles of Fujiko Mine (''Lupin III''), Honey Kisaragi (''Cutie Honey''), and Bakabon's Mama (''Tensai Bakabon''). Early life Eiko Masuyama was the youngest of four sisters. When she was young she spoke slowly. Her teacher told her "You can't talk properly". At age 12, she joined the Children's Theater Company to improve her speech. She studied under Miyoko Asō, overcoming the complex.
