''The White Roses of Ravensberg'' (German: ''Die weißen Rosen von Ravensberg'') is a 1929 German silent drama film directed by Rudolf Meinert and starring Diana Karenne, Viola Garden and Jack Trevor. The film was shot at the Staaken Studios in Berlin. It was based on the 1887 novel '' The White Roses of Ravensberg'' by Eufemia von Adlersfeld-BallestremPrawer p.88 which had previously been made into a film in 1919. Rudolf Meinert
Rudolf Meinert (1882–6 March 1943) was an Austrian screenwriter, film producer and film director, director. Meinert was born Rudolf Bürstein in Vienna, but worked for most of his career in the Cinema of Germany, German film industry. He became well-established as the producer/director of silent film, silent crime films. In the immediate post-First World War period, Meinert was head of production at the German studio Decla after his own production unit Meinert-Film was taken over by the larger outfit. Meinert, rather than Erich Pommer, is sometimes credited as the producer behind Decla's revolutionary ''The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' (1920). Following the Nazi takeover of power in Germany, Meinert, who was Jewish, went into exile in the Netherlands, however he returned to Austria. He moved to France in 1937 and live there until he was caught, sent to Drancy internment camp and transported to Majdanek concentration camp on 6 March 1943, where he died. Willi Forst, born Wilhelm Anton Frohs (7 April 1903 – 11 August 1980) was an Austrian actor, screenwriter, film director, film producer and singer. As a debonair actor he was a darling of the German-speaking film audiences, as a director, one of the most significant makers of the Viennese period musical melodramas and comedies of the 1930s known as ''Wiener Filme''. From the mid-1930s he also recorded many records, largely of sentimental Viennese songs, for the Odeon Records label owned by Carl Lindström AG. Biography His first major role was opposite Marlene Dietrich in the silent film '' Café Elektric'' in 1927. However, he was best known for his characters in light musicals, which rapidly made him a star.
