The White Juga
''The White Juga'', ( sq, Juga e Bardhē), is an Albanian novel written by Jakov Xoxa in 1971. The trend of criticizing small town mayors and other less significant government officials instead of highly ranked authorities, which was prominent in the period the book was published, found its way in this novel. This was later surpassed boldly by Dritëro Agolli in his novel "'' Splendour and fall of comrade Zylo''", in which he openly criticizes ministers for being corrupt. Setting ''White Juga'' is an informal sequel to the author’s earlier work ''The Dead River'', consequently the setting in which the main story takes place is Pre-World War II Albania, more specifically a small town called ''Trokth''. Plot ''White Juga'' revolves mainly around the corruption of the administration of the town ''Trokth'', personified by the main antagonist ''Kiu Koroziu''. Jakov Xoxa
Jakov Xoxa (15 April 1923 – 11 November 1979) was an author from Albania of the 20th century. Biography Xoxa had ethnic Aromanian origins from Korçë. He born in the town of Fier, Albania on April 15, 1923 and died on November 11, 1979. He studied at the Qemal Stafa High School, in Tirana, Albania. Although at a relatively young age, like many other Albanian intellectuals he participated in the Anti-Fascist War. After the Liberation of the country he continued his studies in philology and began writing poetry and prose. In 1949 he published his first prose novel. Beginning in 1957 he worked as a professor in the Faculty of History and Philology at the University of Tirana, where for many years he lectured on literary theory. He died in 1979 in Budapest. Albanian Language
Albanian ( endonym: or ) is an Indo-European language and an independent branch of that family of languages. It is spoken by the Albanians in the Balkans and by the Albanian diaspora, which is generally concentrated in the Americas, Europe and Oceania. Splendour And Fall Of Comrade Zylo
''The Rise and Fall of Comrade Zylo'' ( sq, Shkëlqimi dhe Rënja e Shokut Zylo) is an Albanian satiric novel written by Dritëro Agolli in 1972. It is Dritëro Agolli's most famous and critically acclaimed novel. The book was written during the communist regime in Albania, a time during which freedom of speech was very limited to non-existent. The composition of the whole book is similar to that of a report, record or official biography. Originally published in the satirical magazine ''Hosteni'' ("The Goad"), it first appeared in book form in 1973. Plot The main story revolves around the optimistic main protagonist ''Zylo Kamberi'', who is an incompetent apparatchik. The Dead River
''The Dead River'' (originally in Albanian ''"Lumi i Vdekur"'') is the title of the first novel written by the 20th century Albanian writer Jakov Xoxa. One of the best-known of Jakov Xoxa's, the literary work was written in 1964 only to be published 7 years later. Plot The story revolves around the romantic love between the two main characters, Vita and Adil, and the ill fates of three Albanian families which all meet in a little town called ''Trokth'' in Albania. The seemingly independent stories that revolve around the three families are well interwoven with the fates of the two lovers. Albanian Literature
Albanian literature stretches back to the Middle Ages and comprises those literary texts and works written in Albanian. It may also refer to literature written by Albanians in Albania, Kosovo and the Albanian diaspora particularly in Italy. Albanian occupies an independent branch within the Indo-European family and does not have any other closely related language. The origin of Albanian is not entirely known, but it may be a successor of the ancient Illyrian language. The Archbishop of Antivari Guillaume Adam wrote a report in 1332 in which he said that Albanians used Latin letters in their books although their language was quite different from the Latin language. The oldest surviving documents written in Albanian are the "Formula e pagëzimit" (Baptismal formula) recorded by Pal Engjëlli, Bishop of Durrës in 1462 in the Gheg dialect, and some New Testament verses from that period.
