''The White Fortress'' ( bs, Tabija) is a 2021 Bosnian-Canadian coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Igor Drljaca. The film premiered on March 1, 2021 at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival. Produced by Canada's Timelapse Pictures and Bosnia-Herzegovina's SCCA/pro.baIt, it had its Canadian premiere at the 2021 Vancouver International Film Festival. It was selected as the Bosnian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards. Plot Faruk ( Pavle Čemerikić), a teenage orphan living with his grandmother in the suburbs of Sarajevo, is drawn into a romance with Mona (Sumeja Dardagan), a member of a wealthy, politically powerful family. This is a list of submissions to the 94th Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film every year since the award was created in 29th Academy Awards, 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The International Feature Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The category was previously called the Best Foreign Language Film, but this was changed in April 2019 to Best International Feature Film, after the Academy deemed the word "Foreign" to be outdated. The Vancouver Film Critics Circle (VFCC) was founded in 2000 by David Spaner and Ian Caddell, in order to help promote Canadian films and the British Columbia Film and Television Industry. Its membership includes print, radio, on-line, and television critics, either based in Vancouver or with Vancouver outlets. VFCC Notable Milestones The VFCC celebrated its 13th anniversary of giving awards to the year’s best films on January 7, 2013 at the Railway Club. The event is the only among Canadian critics’ groups that presents a full slate of international awards and a full slate of Canadian awards.
