''The White EP'' is the recording debut of San Francisco punk rock group Pop-o-pies, Pop-O-Pies. It was released by 415 Records in 1982. The six-song Extended Play, EP includes their Cover version, cover of the Grateful Dead classic "Truckin'," which for several months in late 1981 became the most requested song on the San Francisco college radio station KUSF (defunct), KUSF. In 1982, Jerry Garcia heard "Truckin'" and immediately became a big fan of the band. Pop-o-pies
The Pop-O-Pies were an American punk rock band from San Francisco, California founded by Joe Callahan (aka Joe Pop-O-Pie) that got their start by repeatedly playing a cover of The Grateful Dead's "Truckin'". Though the band went through many lineup changes, notably featuring members of Mr. Bungle and Faith No More, several recordings would follow. All of them, except for '' The White EP'', can be found on the 2003 CD compilation ''Pop-O-Anthology 1984-1993''. 415 Records
415 Records was a San Francisco record label created in 1978. The label focused its efforts on local punk rock and new wave music acts of the late 1970s through the late 1980s, including The Offs, The Nuns, The Units, Romeo Void, and Wire Train. Its name, pronounced four-one-five (not four-fifteen), was a play on both the telephone area code for the San Francisco area and the California penal code section for disturbing the peace (indeed, in some promotional material, the phrase "disturbing the peace" was written underneath the 415 logo). The label had a productive partnership with Columbia Records from 1981 until shortly before it was sold in 1989 to Sandy Pearlman, who retitled the label Popular Metaphysics. David Kahne
David Kahne is an American record producer, musician, composer, and former record company executive. Professional career Kahne started his musical career as a working musician and soon became Director of A&R for America's first punk and new wave record label, San Francisco's 415 Records; a position he operated out of a closet-sized office upstairs at The Automatt recording studio. He did artist development and in-house production and engineering there for 415 and continued to produce records for artists on the 415 label when he left Automatt to accept a position in Los Angeles as vice president of A&R for Columbia Records. He later held the same position at Warner Bros. Records. He produced '' MTV Unplugged: Tony Bennett'', the 1995 Grammy Award winner for Album of the Year. Robert Christgau
Robert Thomas Christgau ( ; born April 18, 1942) is an American music journalist and essayist. Among the most well-known and influential music critics, he began his career in the late 1960s as one of the earliest professional rock critics and later became an early proponent of musical movements such as hip hop, riot grrrl, and the import of African popular music in the West. The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. KUSF (defunct)
KUSF is an online-only radio station owned by the University of San Francisco and operated by its students. From 1963 until 2011, the station was a non-commercial radio station licensed to San Francisco, California, broadcast at 90.3 FM MHz. KUSF history KUSF began in 1963 as a campus-only AM station managed by the Associated Students of the University of San Francisco (ASUSF). In 1973, the University of San Francisco (USF) was offered an FM radio station by a small local Bible college that wished to discontinue its radio operations.
