The Whipper Snappers
The Whipper Snappers is an Australian pop band. Based in Sydney, the band was formed in 1986 by Annette Crowe, Joy Howard, Tim Eaton and Frank Zaknich. They released their debut single in 1988 and the next year played a cover of "Stairway To Heaven" on The Money or the Gun. Later that year they contributed a new original song to Rockin' Bethlehem in support of Camperdown Children's Hospital. Brad Shepherd (as "Rock Hard") replaced Eaton and the band covered Kiss for '' Hard to Believe: A Kiss Covers Compilation''. Dave Steel replaced Shepard as a live guitarist and in 1990 they covered Russell Morris's "Sweet, Sweet Love" for ''Used and Recovered By... RRR''. In 1991 the lineup changed to be Crowe, Steve Waters, Christian Powers, Lara Goodridge and Tim Seckold. The band released EPs in 1992 and 1993. The Money Or The Gun
''The Money or the Gun'' was an Australian comedy/talk-show on the ABC network. It ran from late 1989 to mid-1990, with occasional specials until 1994. It was written by Andrew Denton, Simon Dodd, Bruce Griffiths, and George Dodd, directed by Martin Coombes and produced by Mark Fitzgerald. Each episode was based on a significant theme, with Denton interviewing a number of people as well as conducting vox pops on the street. Significant episodes include "Guns-The Musical" and the award-winning episode on disabilities, "The Year of the Patronising Bastard" (which picked up a United Nations Media Peace Prize). In 1993, a one-off special was called "Topic of Cancer", which talked to teenagers with cancer (while at a CanTeen weekend). Encyclopedia Of Australian Rock And Pop
''The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop'' or ''Rock and Pop'' by Australian music journalist Ian McFarlane is a guide to Australian popular music from the 1950s to the late 1990s. The book has a similar title to the 1978 work by Noel McGrath, ''Australian Encyclopaedia of Rock and Pop'', but is not otherwise related. Publishers, Allen & Unwin described McFarlane's encyclopedia as containing over 870 entries and an "essential reference to the bands and artists who molded the shape of Australian popular music ..in an A-to-Z encyclopedia format complete with biographical and historical details. Each entry also includes listings of original band lineups and subsequent changes, record releases, career highlights, and cross-references with related bands and artists." George Allen & Unwin was a British publishing company formed in 1911 when Sir Stanley Unwin purchased a controlling interest in George Allen & Co. St Leonards, New South Wales
St Leonards is a suburb on the lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. St Leonards is located north-west of the Sydney central business district and lies across the local government areas of Municipality of Lane Cove, North Sydney Council and the City of Willoughby. Brad Shepherd
Bradley Mark Shepherd (born 1 February 1961) is an Australian rock musician. Shepherd is a guitarist, singer-songwriter and harmonica player; he has performed with several bands, especially Hoodoo Gurus. Biography Early life Shepherd was born in Sydney but his parents relocated to Brisbane when he was six years old and describes himself as "a frustrated drummer": his parents had bought a drum kit but after moving on to guitar he left the kit for his younger brother Murray Shepherd. Shepherd attended Kedron High School and Brisbane Grammar School in the mid-1970s. David Alexander John Steel is an Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He is a former member of folk rock group, Weddings Parties Anything (1985–88) and pop band, The Whipper Snappers (1990–91). Russell Morris
Russell Norman Morris (born 31 July 1948) is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who had five Australian Top 10 singles during the late 1960s and early 1970s. On 1 July 2008, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) recognised Morris' status when he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. "The Real Thing" was added to the National Film and Sound Archive's Sounds of Australia registry in 2013. "Sweet, Sweet Love" is a song written and recorded by Australian singer Russell Morris and produced by Howard Gable. It was released as the lead single from his debut album '' Bloodstone''. It peaked at number 7 on the Australian Go-Set chart in July 1971; this becoming Morris' fourth top ten single. In a performance of the song in 2007, Morris said he originally wrote the song for John Farnham who turned the song down saying 'it takes too long to get to the chorus'. "Sweet Sweet Love" is made up of two songs, inspired by a photo of his then-wife which he stuck up on the wall in bedsit in London while trying for UK success.
