Charles Eldridge
Charles Eldridge (September 25, 1854 – October 29, 1922) was an American stage and screen actor of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He appeared in over 100 films, although the majority of those were film shorts. He began on the stage during the 1870s, and appeared in at least one Broadway play, Charles Frohman's 1899 production of ''Because She Loved Him So''. His first appearance in film was in a 1910 short, ''The Legacy'', in which he starred. His first appearance in a feature film was in ''The Strange Story of Sylvia Gray''. In addition to the over 100 shorts he was in, Eldridge appeared in 27 feature films between 1914 and 1922. In his roles in full-length films, he would usually appear in a supporting role, although occasionally be given a lead, as in 1917's '' Polly of the Circus'', 1920's ''Broken Hearts'', and 1922's ''Ashamed of Parents''. Harold George Bryant Davenport (January 19, 1866August 9, 1949) was an American film and stage actor who worked in show business from the age of six until his death. After a long and prolific Broadway career, he came to Hollywood in the 1930s, where he often played grandfathers, judges, doctors, and ministers. His roles include Dr. Meade in ''Gone with the Wind'' (1939) and Grandpa in ''Meet Me in St. Louis'' (1944). Bette Davis once called Davenport "without a doubt . .the greatest character actor of all time." She was primarily known for writing comedies. Biography Theatrical beginnings Kavanaugh was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1874, and she attended school at Mount de Sales and Notre Dame. Both of her parents died when she was young. She took an early interest in storytelling; as she'd later recall, she'd often get in trouble as a young girl for working up plays in the schoolyard. Still, she never thought she'd make a career for herself in the theater. She began acting with the Albaugh Stock Company around 1900, and Valerie Bergere eventually brought her on the road for her touring act.
