''The Wedding Ring'' (''Zin'naariyâ!'') is a 2016 Nigerien drama film directed by Rahmatou Keïta. It was selected as the Nigerien entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. It was the first film to be submitted by Niger in the Foreign Language Oscar category. Rahmatou Keïta is a Nigerien journalist, writer, and film director, whose film career began in 1990. She won the prestigious 7 d'or for '' L'assiette anglaise'' (2005) and the Sojourner Truth Award for ''Al'lèèssi…'', her first feature film. Life and career Born in Niger, Rahmatou Keïta is a descendant of Sundiata Keïta. She has remarked that she embodies the true essence of the Sahelian countries, being of Fulani, Songhai and Mandingo ancestry. After studying philosophy and linguistics in Paris, she started her career in France. Before becoming a movie director, she made a name for herself as a journalist for European TV channels. This is a list of submissions to the 91st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. The deadline for submissions was 1 October 2018, with the Academy announcing a list of eligible films on 8 October. A total of 89 countries submitted a film, with 87 of those being accepted. Sarah Magaajyia Silberfeld (born 30 August 1996) is a French actress and film director. Biography Silberfeld is the daughter of film director Rahmatou Keïta and French journalist Antoine Silber. She began acting at the local theater at the age of 11. Silberfeld grew up in France but travelled frequently to Greece, Niger, and Mali, and lived in Los Angeles for three years.
