''The Web'' is an American anthology series produced by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman in association with Screen Gems that aired on NBC in 1957 as a summer replacement for ''The Loretta Young Show''.It consisted of 13 half-hour filmed dramas that were adapted from writings of the Mystery Writers of America. Its 1958 syndication title was ''Undercurrent''. It was narrated by William Bryant. Guest stars included Raymond Burr, Teresa Wright, James Darren, Alexander Scourby, Joyce Meadows, and DeForest Kelley. Among its directors was Walter Doniger. Mark Goodson
Mark Leo Goodson (January 14, 1915 – December 18, 1992) was an American television producer who specialized in game shows, most frequently with his business partner Bill Todman, with whom he created Goodson-Todman Productions. Early life and early career Goodson was born in Sacramento, California, on January 14, 1915. *a "Born Jan. 14, 1915 in Sacramento, CA." — ¶ 1. DeForest Kelley
Jackson DeForest Kelley (January 20, 1920 – June 11, 1999), known to colleagues as "Dee", was an American actor, screenwriter, poet, and singer. He was known for his roles in Westerns and as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy of the in the television and film series '' Star Trek'' (1966–1991). Early life Kelley was born in Toccoa, Georgia, the son of Clora (née Casey) and Ernest David Kelley, a Baptist minister of Irish and southern ancestry. ''The Web'' is an American dramatic anthology series that aired live on CBS for four seasons from July 11, 1950, to September 26, 1954. The program was produced by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman, and was narrated by Jonathan Blake. A series with the same title and a similar premise was also broadcast briefly by NBC during the summer of 1957. Herbert Hirschman and Lela Swift directed on alternate weeks. Kent cigarettes and Embassy Cigarettes sponsored the program, which originated at WCBS-TV. Walter Doniger
Walter J. Doniger (July 1, 1917, in New York, New York - November 24, 2011, in Los Angeles, California) was an American film and television director. He was a graduate of the Harvard School of Business. Career In the early 1940s, Doniger started as a scriptwriter with Universal Films. During World War II, he worked on training films for the United States Army. His knowledge of military matters was reflected in some of his later work for television and films. After the war, Doniger worked as a screenwriter, director and producer. He wrote some of the scripts for the NBC-TV series ''Your Show Time'' (1949). He specialized in hard-boiled action pictures, including prison dramas ('' Duffy of San Quentin'', 1954, and '' The Steel Cage'', 1954), as well as war pictures ('' Cease Fire!'', 1953). Joyce Meadows, born Joyce Johanna Burger (born April 13, 1933) is a Canadian-American film and television actress. Life and career Meadows was born in Arrowwood, Alberta, moving with her family to Montana and then California. She worked as a singer while in high school, and was a winner of the Miss Sacramento pageant, after which she moved to Hollywood, California. William Selden Todman (July 31, 1916 – July 29, 1979) was an American television producer and personality born in New York City. He produced many of television's longest-running shows with business partner Mark Goodson, with whom he created Goodson-Todman Productions. Early life Todman was the son of a Wall Street accountant, Frederick S. Todman, CPA, whose accounting firm was known as Frederick S. Todman & Co. and for many years was located at 111 Broadway, downtown Manhattan. The firm represented some of the United States' biggest companies, including the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, Polaroid, Eastman Kodak, and Chase Manhattan Bank. Frederick S. Todman lectured in post-World War II Japan as part of that country's economic reconstruction, and wrote several quintessential books on Wall Street Accounting. Alexander Scourby
Alexander Scourby (; November 13, 1913 – February 22, 1985) was an American film, television, and voice actor known for his deep and resonant voice and Mid-Atlantic accent. He is best known for his film role as the ruthless mob boss Mike Lagana in Fritz Lang's ''The Big Heat'' (1953), and is also particularly well-remembered in the English-speaking world for his landmark recordings of the entire King James Version audio Bible, which have been released in numerous editions.
