''The Way We Were'', fully titled ''The Way We Were: The Best Of A House 04.85-02.97'', is a compilation album released by Irish band A House in 2002. It was released in regular and limited-edition versions; the limited edition, which ran to 3,000 copies and was released only in Ireland, includes a bonus disc of b-sides and rarities. ''The Way We Were'' entered the Irish music charts in July 2002 and remained on the chart for four weeks, peaking at number 10. A House were an Irish rock band that was active in Dublin from the 1985 to 1997, and recognized for the clever, "often bitter or irony laden lyrics of frontman Dave Couse ... bolstered by the and'sseemingly effortless musicality". Setanta Records
Setanta Records was a British independent record label led by founder Keith Cullen. Setanta published UK and Irish indie music in the late 1980s and in the 1990s. History Setanta Records was started in a Camberwell, London squat by former bicycle courier Keith Cullen. Their first success came when Dublin band Into Paradise received positive reviews from the British music press for their Setanta debut titled ''Under the Water''. Major label interest followed and Into Paradise subsequently signed to Ensign Records retaining Cullen as band manager. Shortly thereafter, Cullen signed the Cork trio the Frank and Walters, who wore orange shirts and purple flared trousers. As with Into Paradise, the band signed to Go! Genes (album)
''Genes'', from 2003, is the first album released by Dave Couse since the breakup of A House in 1997. ''Genes'' Couse released ''Genes'' on his own record label, Beep Beep. It is very much a solo affair, with all songs but one written by Couse, and mostly performed by Couse, although he enlisted old friend Edwyn Collins as producer. Many of the songs are also very personal, with Couse himself referring to it as "somewhat introspective affair". An important theme is that of family, as represented by the title and also the artwork (which seems to include old family photos), and specifically of Couse's relationship to his father who had only recently died when the record was being made. The song that Couse didn't write is John Cale's " (I Keep a) Close Watch" (listed as "Close Watch" on ''Genes''), which addresses the fear of loss associated with love. Dave Couse
Dave Couse (born 1965) is an Irish musician, producer, and radio presenter best known for being the lead singer and main songwriter with the band A House. Couse has also released three albums as a solo artist. Early career and A House Couse was born in Perrystown, Dublin in 1965. He met some of his future bandmates while attending school in Templeogue College and formed the band Last Chance. The disintegration of Last Chance gave birth to A House which consisted of Couse on vocals and guitar, Martin Healy on bass, Dermot Wylie on drums, and Fergal Bunbury on guitar. A House's earliest appearance on record appears on ''Live at the Underground'' (UK, 1986) alongside other up and coming bands such as Something Happens and The Stars of Heaven, while their first single release was "Kick Me Again Jesus" in 1987. "Endless Art" is a song by Republic of Ireland, Irish indie rock band A House, released initially as the lead track on the ''Bingo'' EP (1991), and then as a single from their 1991 album ''I Am the Greatest (A House album), I Am the Greatest''. It was later included on the greatest hits album ''The Way We Were (A House album), The Way We Were''. After the commercial failure of their 1990 album ''I Want Too Much'', A House had been dropped from their label Blanco y Negro Records, to be picked up by the indie label Setanta Records. They quickly released the EPs ''Doodle'' and ''Bingo'' at the end of 1990 and in 1991. The latter included the first appearance of "Endless Art", which A House recorded with Edwyn Collins as producer. "Here Come the Good Times" is a song by Irish indie rock band A House, released as a single from their 1994 album '' Wide-Eyed and Ignorant''. It is the only single by A House to reach the UK charts, reaching number 40. "Here Come the Good Times" was re-recorded by members of the Irish soccer squad, and various Irish celebrities and boy band members for use as the official Irish 2002 World Cup anthem. Proceeds went to charity, and €40,000 was raised for Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin in Dublin. This version of the song topped the Irish Singles Chart. Edwyn Collins
Edwyn Stephen Collins (born 23 August 1959) is a Scottish musician, producer and record label owner from Edinburgh, Scotland. Collins was the lead singer for the 1980s post-punk band Orange Juice, which he co-founded. After the group split in 1985, Collins started a solo career. His 1995 single " A Girl Like You" was a worldwide hit. In February 2005, Collins was hospitalised after two cerebral haemorrhages which resulted in aphasia, and he needed months to recover. He resumed his musical career in 2007. A documentary film on his recovery, ''The Possibilities Are Endless'', was released in 2014. Collins was the co-founder of the indie record label Postcard Records and co-founded a second label, Analogue Enhanced Digital, in 2011. Phil Thornalley
Philip Thornalley (born 5 January 1960) is an English songwriter-producer who has worked in the music industry since 1978. He is perhaps best known for co-writing (with Scott Cutler and Anne Preven) the song " Torn" (made famous by Natalie Imbruglia's cover version, which he also produced) and the UK number one hits " Mama Do" and " Boys and Girls" for Pixie Lott. He also produced The Cure's 1982 album ''Pornography'' and was later their bass player for eighteen months, producing and performing the distinctive double bass line on their 1983 single " The Love Cats".
