The Wacky Wabbit
''The Wacky Wabbit'' is a 1942 '' Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Bob Clampett. It stars Bugs Bunny (Voice by Mel Blanc) and Elmer Fudd (voiced by Arthur Quirk Bryan). Plot Singing a modified version of "Oh! Susanna," Elmer Fudd trudges into the desert looking for gold to support the World War II Allied victory effort. An initially unseen creature - it is soon clear it is Bugs Bunny - pokes its eyes into the empty sockets of a bison skull. As Elmer passes, Bugs greets him; Elmer merely tips his hat in response and continues his trek. Bugs then falls into step with him, harmonizing on "Oh! Susanna". Bob Clampett
Robert Emerson Clampett Sr. (May 8, 1913 – May 2, 1984) was an American animator, director, producer and puppeteer. He was best known for his work on the '' Looney Tunes'' animated series from Warner Bros. as well as the television shows ''Time for Beany'' and ''Beany and Cecil''. He was born and raised not far from Hollywood and, early in life, showed an interest in animation and puppetry. After leaving high school a few months shy of graduating in 1931, he joined the team at Harman-Ising Productions and began working on the studio's newest short subjects, ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies''. Clampett was promoted to a directorial position in 1937. During his 15 years at the studio, he directed 84 cartoons later deemed classic, and designed some of the studio's most famous characters, including Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Tweety. The Golden Age Of Looney Tunes
''The Golden Age of Looney Tunes'' is a collection of LaserDiscs released by MGM/UA Home Video in the 1990s. There were five sets made, featuring a number of discs, and each disc side represented a different theme, being made up of seven cartoons per side. The first volume was also released on VHS, with each tape representing one disc side. Like many other ''Looney Tunes'' home video releases by MGM/UA Home Video, Volumes 1-4 used faded 35 mm Associated Artists Productions (a.a.p.) television prints as MGM/UA and Turner Entertainment, owners of the rights to the shorts, at the time had no access to Warner Bros.' negatives. Unlike many other ''Looney Tunes'' home video releases by MGM/UA Home Video, most of the a.a.p. logos were cut from the releases. ''Trap Happy Porky'' is a 1945 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' short directed by Chuck Jones and written by Tedd Pierce. The short was released on February 24, 1945, and features Porky Pig, along with Hubie and Bertie, an early version of Claude Cat and a prototype of Hector the Bulldog. Plot At Uncle Tom's Cabins, Porky is trying to get some sleep, but mice Hubie and Bertie are down there stealing food and breaking things against his will. He tries to capture them with a simple mousetrap, but fails as the mice prove to be too smart for him. He then gets a cat and it throws the mice out with his contraption. Porky keeps the cat and goes to sleep, but the cat invites other cats to get intoxicated, play the piano and drunkenly sing. After failing multiple times to throw them out, Porky buys a bulldog from town to get rid of them, but the dog also gets drunk and sings with the cats instead. ''Tick Tock Tuckered'' is a 1944 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Bob Clampett. The cartoon was released on April 8, 1944, and stars Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. This is a color remake of the cartoon ''Porky's Badtime Story'' (1937), with Daffy filling the role that was previously played by Gabby Goat. A gag from Friz Freleng’s cartoon ''Notes to You'' (1941) was also reused as well, while a reference to ''The Dover Boys'' (1942) is briefly made. Plot The plot is largely the same as the plot of ''Porky's Badtime Story''. A booby is a seabird in the genus ''Sula'', part of the family Sulidae. Boobies are closely related to the gannets (''Morus''), which were formerly included in ''Sula''. ''The Merry Old Soul'' is a 1933 animated short film by Walter Lantz Productions, as part of the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series. The cartoon was nominated for an Academy Award. Plot Oswald goes to a dental clinic for treatment to his cavity problem. While the dentist tries to pull out his damaged tooth, news break out of a radio in the shop, reporting that the king is in serious depression and needs to be cheered up. In this, Oswald abandons his dental treatment, and heads outside to spread the word. In his castle, Old King Cole is having a long face for some reason. His personal jester tries to brighten him up but to no avail, and therefore, leaves the throne room. Oswald then shows up and reads to him a book of comical rhymes. The rabbit's attempt helps a little and the king's mood improves slightly. ''Peck Up Your Troubles'' is a 1945 Warner Bros. '' Merrie Melodies'' animated short directed by Friz Freleng. The short was released on October 20, 1945, and stars Sylvester the Cat. The cartoon marked the first appearance of Sylvester's long-time foe Hector the Bulldog, who would later become a recurring character in Tweety and Sylvester cartoons. The woodpecker would later reappear in '' A Peck o' Trouble'', a Dodsworth Cat cartoon directed by Robert McKimson in 1953. Plot Sylvester is determined to get a male woodpecker that just moved in, high in a tree. ''Fresh Hare'' is a Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Friz Freleng, written by Michael Maltese, and produced by Leon Schlesinger. It was released to theatres on August 22, 1942. Plot In this short, the rotund early-1940s version of Elmer Fudd is portrayed as a Mountie, earnestly attempting to arrest Bugs Bunny, who is, according to several posters attached to forest trees, wanted dead or alive (preferably dead). After following the rabbit tracks to a burrow, Elmer tries to lure Bugs out with a carrot; this works, at least with Bugs' hand, and Elmer initially succeeds in getting a handcuff around the rabbit's wrist. Somehow, though, Bugs works his arm free of the cuff – out of sight in his burrow – and attaches a bomb in its place. ''Wabbit Twouble'' ("Rabbit Trouble") is a ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon starring Bugs Bunny, produced by Leon Schlesinger Productions and released on December 20, 1941 by Warner Bros. Pictures. This is the first of several Bugs Bunny cartoon titles that refer to Elmer Fudd's speech impediment, with the names of Bob Clampett, Sidney Sutherland, and Carl Stalling, as well as the roles of Story, Supervision, and Musical Direction, intentionally misspelled in the credits to match the speech impediment. In the cartoon, Elmer expects to find rest and relaxation at Jellostone National Park. He mistakenly sets up camp in the neighborhood of Bugs' rabbit hole, but Bugs (and a neighboring bear) do not have much leisure in mind. Tex Avery began the project which Clampett finished; Avery is not credited on screen.
