The Wabbit Who Came To Supper
''The Wabbit Who Came to Supper'' is a 1942 ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. It was released on March 28, 1942, and directed by Friz Freleng. Plot Elmer's hunting dogs have Bugs cornered when Elmer receives a telegram that says that his uncle, Louie, is dying and promises him $3 million in his will, but only if he doesn't harm any animals, especially rabbits. Elmer sets Bugs free and heads home. When Elmer arrives home, he hears Bugs singing in the shower and tries to kill him, but Bugs pokes out a sign that reminds Elmer of Uncle Louie. Elmer tries to get Bugs to leave the house and eventually tricks him out. Bugs then pretends to die of " p-neumonia", causing Elmer to take him back in, fearing that he may have lost his chance to receive the money. Friz Freleng
Isadore "Friz" Freleng (August 21, 1905May 26, 1995), credited as I. Freleng early in his career, was an American animator, cartoonist, director, producer, and composer known for his work at Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons. In total he created more than 300 cartoons. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance), and Speedy Gonzales. The senior director at Warners' Termite Terrace studio, Freleng directed more cartoons than any other director in the studio (a total of 266), and is also the most honored of the Warner directors, having won five Academy Awards and three Emmy Awards. "Any Bonds Today?" is a song written by Irving Berlin, featured in a 1942 animated propaganda filmCohen (2004), p. 40 starring Bugs Bunny. Both were used to sell war bonds during World War II. Song "Any Bonds Today?" was based on Berlin's own "Any Yams Today," sung by Ginger Rogers in 1938's '' Carefree'', which in turn was a modified version of "Any Love Today," which he wrote in 1931 but didn't have recorded. Berlin wrote the tune "at the request" of Henry Morgenthau, Jr., then U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, to promote the Treasury Department's defense bond and savings stamp drive, the National Defense Savings Program. ''Wabbit Twouble'' ("Rabbit Trouble") is a ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon starring Bugs Bunny, produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons, Leon Schlesinger Productions and released on December 20, 1941 by Warner Bros. Pictures. This is the first of several Bugs Bunny cartoon titles that refer to Elmer Fudd's speech impediment, with the names of Bob Clampett, Sidney Sutherland, and Carl Stalling, as well as the roles of Story, Supervision, and Musical Direction, intentionally misspelled in the credits to match the speech impediment. In the cartoon, Elmer expects to find rest and relaxation at Jellostone National Park. He mistakenly sets up camp in the neighborhood of Bugs' rabbit hole, but Bugs (and a neighboring bear) do not have much leisure in mind. Martha Sigall
Martha Goldman Sigall (April 17, 1917 – December 13, 2014) was an American inker and painter who worked in the Hollywood animation industry for 53 years. Sigall moved to California from Buffalo, New York, in 1926 and by chance lived around the corner from Leon Schlesinger's Pacific Title and Art company. From about the age of 12, she ran errands for the staff there and was put to work as an apprentice painter on July 13, 1936 at Leon Schlesinger Productions, home of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. Sigall worked first as a cel painter, then later as an inker until 1944. After leaving Schlesinger, she worked for Graphic Films, a small animation house in Hollywood. Sigall went on to work for MGM studios in the cartoon unit, and then became an assistant in the camera room. She eventually compiled over fifty years in the business.
