''The Visitation'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Chrome. It was released in 1976 by Siren Records. In 2014, the album was re-released by Cleopatra Records with additional bonus tracks. Background Unlike Chrome's later albums, ''The Visitation'' is in a psychedelic vein with progressive rock leanings. ''AllMusic'' described its style as "early Brian Eno meets Santana". Chrome (band)
Chrome is an American rock band founded in San Francisco in 1976 by musician Damon Edge and associated with the 1970s post-punk movement. The group's raw sound blended elements of punk, psychedelia, and early industrial music, incorporating science-fiction themes, tape experimentation, distorted acid rock guitar, and electronic noise. They have been cited as forerunners of the 1980s industrial music boom. They found little commercial success as part of San Francisco's 1970s music scene, but developed a cult following in the United Kingdom and Germany following the release of the LPs '' Alien Soundtracks'' (1977) and ''Half Machine Lip Moves'' (1979). Edge died in 1995; subsequently, guitarist Helios Creed has revived the Chrome name for recordings and performances. An electric violin is a violin equipped with an electronic output of its sound. The term most properly refers to an instrument intentionally made to be electrified with built-in pickups, usually with a solid body. It can also refer to a violin fitted with an electric pickup of some type, although "amplified violin" or "electro-acoustic violin" are more accurate then. History Electrically amplified violins have been used in one form or another since the 1920s; jazz and blues artist Stuff Smith is generally credited as being one of the first performers to adapt pickups and amplifiers to violins. The Electro Stringed Instrument Corporation, National String Instrument Corporation and Vega Company sold electric violins in the 1930s and 1940s; Fender advertised an electric violin in 1958 (first production model pictured at the head of this page) but withdrew it at the point of production.
