The Virgin Soldiers (film)
''The Virgin Soldiers'' is a 1969 British war film, war comedy-drama film directed by John Dexter and starring Lynn Redgrave, Hywel Bennett, Nigel Davenport, Nigel Patrick and Rachel Kempson. It is set in 1950, during the Malayan Emergency, and is based on the 1966 The Virgin Soldiers, novel of the same name by Leslie Thomas. The film's popularity spawned a 1977 sequel, ''Stand Up, Virgin Soldiers'' with Nigel Davenport repeating his role as Sgt Driscoll. Premise Private Brigg is a soldier sent to Singapore during the Malayan Emergency along with a squad of naïve new recruits. There he falls for Phillipa Raskin, the daughter of the regimental sergeant major. Gregory Alan Phillips (born August 17, 1960) is an American lawyer who serves as a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and former Wyoming Attorney General. Geoffrey Hughes DL (2 February 1944 – 27 July 2012) was an English actor. Hughes provided the voice of Paul McCartney in the animated film '' Yellow Submarine'' (1968), and rose to fame for portraying much-loved bin man Eddie Yeats in the long-running British soap opera ''Coronation Street'' from 1974 to 1983, making a return to the show in 1987.
