The Vines, Oxford
The Vines is a house on Pullens Lane, Headington, a suburb in east Oxford, England. It was the first house to be built on the west side of the lane, on land that was originally owned by the Morrell family, local brewers. The house is built of red brick with stone dressings. The house was built in 1889–90 for Professor Sydney Howard Vines (1849–1934). It was designed by the Victorian architect Harry Wilkinson Moore (1850–1915). In 1923, it became known as The Vineyard, after the first owner, Professor Vines. In 1948, the Vineyard was purchased by the United Oxford Hospitals, who renamed it to be Pollock House after its last owner. From 1948 to 1956, it was used as the Nurses Training School of the then Wingfield-Morris Orthopaedic Hospital, now the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. The Vines is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, developed as a country club estate in 1987. Homes consist of mostly large lots of situated around the golf courses. It is in the Swan Valley region of Western Australia, and was approved as a suburb name in 1996. The Vines is home to a four-star resort and country club that encompasses two hotels: the Novotel Vines and the Sebel Swan Valley. The resort hosts two 18-hole golf courses, which traverse the suburb; both are world class championship courses: The Lakes and Ellenbrook. The Vines Resort and Country Club has been host to international golf tournaments: the Heineken Classic 1993–2001, Johnnie Walker Classic 2006 and 2009, and the Lexus Cup 2007. The Vines are an Australian Rock music, rock band formed in Sydney in 1994. Their sound has been described as a musical hybrid of 1960s garage rock and 1990s alternative rock. The band has been through several line-up changes, with vocalist/guitarist Craig Nicholls serving as the sole constant throughout the band's history. The Vines' success in the Australian recording industry resulted in winning the ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist – Single for "Get Free (The Vines song), Get Free" and receiving five other nominations for their debut album ''Highly Evolved'', plus two further nominations in subsequent years. In 2003, the album went Music recording sales certification, platinum in Australia, and since then the band has released four albums and a greatest hits album, best-of compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
