The Village (TV Series)
''The Village'' (1993) is a television series about the life and times of the villagers of Bentley, Hampshire, from 1993 to 2001. It was initially broadcast as a radio programme on BBC Radio 4, Christmas 1990, and continued in 1991, 1992 and 1993 – a total of 50 radio broadcasts. A book was also written by Nigel Farrell, covering the original Radio 4 episodes: ''The Village: The Early Years'' (). Due to the success of the radio broadcast, the TV series began filming in summer 1993 and was broadcast on 3 October 1993 by ITV Meridian, later to be shown on BBC 2 and Sky. It was also exported to Australian and Norwegian TV. Bentley, Hampshire
Bentley is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. The parish has changed little over centuries and currently measures , the same size it measured in 1875. when the population was 731 The village is north of the A31 road between Farnham and Alton, about five miles (8 km) southwest of Farnham and six miles (10 km) northeast of Alton. The village is served by Bentley railway station, which is about one mile (1.6 km) to the south, in the parish of Binsted against Alice Holt Forest. There are two pubs in the village: ''The Star Inn'' (named after a car) and ''The Bull Inn''. Culture Bentley was the location of a Radio 4 and ITV Docu-Drama from the 1990s called '' The Village'', which focused on local residents and their daily lives. Nigel Farrell
Nigel George Farrell, born on 22 January 1953 in London, died 24 September 2011, was a television documentary film-maker who was a pioneer in what has been termed 'docu-soaps'. He initially followed his father into medicine, but soon entered the world of television via local journalism. He worked on programmes such as South Today and Breakfast Time, and on BBC Radio 4 appeared on Ned Sherrin’s Saturday evening show Loose Ends. He will primarily be remembered for a 50-programme Radio 4 series called The Village (which went on to become a ''television series''); three series of ''Country House'' set at Woburn Abbey, ''An Island Parish'', which evolved from '' A Country Parish'', launched in 2001 on BBC Two and a series on Channel 4 called ''A Place In France''.
