The Victor (1923 Film)
''The Victor'' is a 1923 American silent film, silent romantic comedy film directed by Edward Laemmle and starring Herbert Rawlinson, Frank Currier and Esther Ralston.Connelly p.428 Synopsis The Englishman Cecil Fitzhugh Waring is sent to America by his father Lord Waring to save the family's finances by marrying the daughter of a chewing gum tycoon. Unwilling to go through with the plan, he wanders the streets and meets a struggling actress who he falls in love with. To raise money he becomes a Boxer (boxing), boxer and enjoys such success that he restores the family fortune, and gets his father's blessing to his marriage to the actress. Edward Laemmle
Edward Laemmle (October 25, 1887 – April 2, 1937) was an American film director of the silent era. He directed more than 60 films between 1920 and 1935. Biography Edward Laemmle was born in Chicago, Illinois and died in Los Angeles. He was the nephew of Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal Studios. His half sister was Carla Laemmle, dancer and actress and his brother was director Ernst Laemmle. He married Peppi Heller on April 8, 1923; the couple had two girls, Constance and Carlotta, and settled in Beverly Hills, California. Eddie Gribbon
Eddie Gribbon (January 3, 1890 – September 29, 1965) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 180 films from the 1910s to the 1950s. Gribbon began working in Mack Sennett films in 1916 and continued through the 1920s. He usually had significant roles in two-reel films, but his roles in feature films were lesser ones. Gribbon was the brother of actor Harry Gribbon.
