''The Very Best of Supertramp'' is a greatest hits album by the English rock band Supertramp, originally released by A&M Records in June 1990. Overview The compilation is basically a new version of the '' Autobiography/Classics Vol. 9 CD'' with the additional song "School" inserted as track 1. Furthermore, all songs are featured in their full-length album versions. The cover depicts the grate from the cover of ''Crime of the Century'', the hand carrying the glass from the cover of ''Breakfast in America'' and the orange umbrella from ''Crisis? What Crisis?''. Tracks from their self-titled album ''Supertramp'' and ''Indelibly Stamped'' were not included. Reception In their retrospective review, AllMusic noted that effectively compiling Supertramp's work is impossible since the group is so album-oriented. Supertramp
Supertramp were an English rock band that formed in London in 1969. Marked by the individual songwriting of founders Roger Hodgson (vocals, keyboards, and guitars) and Rick Davies (vocals and keyboards), they are distinguished for blending progressive rock and pop styles as well as for a sound that relied heavily on Wurlitzer electric piano. The group's lineup changed numerous times throughout their career, with Davies being the only consistent member throughout the decades. Other longtime members included bassist Dougie Thomson, drummer Bob Siebenberg, and saxophonist John Helliwell. Roger Hodgson
Charles Roger Pomfret Hodgson (born 21 March 1950) is an English musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the former co-frontman and founding member of progressive rock band Supertramp. Hodgson composed and sang the majority of the band’s hits, including " Dreamer", "Give a Little Bit", " Take the Long Way Home", "The Logical Song", "It's Raining Again", and "Breakfast in America." In 1983, Hodgson left Supertramp and moved his family away from Los Angeles to live a simpler lifestyle close to nature. After releasing two solo albums in 1984 and 1987, he took a break from his music career to spend time with his children as they were growing up. He returned to touring in 1997, and released a third solo album in 2000. Hodgson often writes about spiritual and philosophical topics, and his lyrics have been described as personal and meaningful. Cannonball (Supertramp Song)
"Cannonball" is the opening track from Supertramp's 1985 album '' Brother Where You Bound''. Overview "Cannonball" was written and sung by keyboardist Rick Davies entirely in the chord of G minor. Davies stated in an interview "I did it simply to see if it could be done". The lyrics to the song may have been seen as a veiled message to former member Roger Hodgson but Davies revealed in a French radio interview that they were inspired by a less than perfect concert promoter whom he refused to name. The track became Supertramp's last US Top 40 single to date, peaking at number 28 on the Billboard singles charts in July 1985. It also crossed over to the dance charts, peaking at number nine. "It's Raining Again" is a song recorded by the English progressive rock band Supertramp and released as a single from their 1982 album '' …Famous Last Words…'' with credits given to Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, although as indicated on the album sleeve, it is a Hodgson composition. The end of the song incorporates the old nursery rhyme "It's Raining, It's Pouring".
