Game Designers' Workshop
Game Designers' Workshop (GDW) was a wargame and role-playing game publisher from 1973 to 1996. Many of their games are now carried by other publishers. History Game Designers' Workshop was originally established June 22, 1973. The founding members consisted of Frank Chadwick, Rich Banner, Marc Miller, and Loren Wiseman. GDW acquired the Conflict Games Company from John Hill in the early 1970s. GDW published a new product approximately every twenty-two days for over twenty years. In an effort to bridge the gap between role players, board wargamers and miniature wargamers, the company published RPGs with fantastic settings alongside games with realistic themes including rulesets for 15mm and 20mm miniatures set during the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, and the modern era; and boardgames involving these eras such as the ''Air Superiority'' series and ''Harpoon''. Gamelords
Gamelords was an American game company that produced tabletop role-playing games and game supplements. History Kerry Lloyd founded the company, with three friends - Richard Meyer, Janet Trautvetter, and Michael Watkins in 1980. Gamelords was centered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Gamelords published the role-playing game '' Thieves' Guild'' in 1980. Looking to produce more group-oriented products for ''The Fantasy Trip'', Howard M. Thompson of Metagaming Concepts signed an agreement in 1982 with Gamelords to create a campaign world for the game, but he terminated the agreement after only two campaign books were published. When FASA ended its support of '' Traveller'', William H. Keith, Jr. and J. Andrew Keith moved their ''Traveller'' writing to Gamelords. ''Traveller'' is a science fiction role-playing game first published in 1977 by Game Designers' Workshop. Marc Miller designed ''Traveller'' with help from Frank Chadwick, John Harshman, and Loren Wiseman. Editions were published for GURPS, d20, and other role-playing game systems. From its origin and in the currently published systems, the game relied upon six-sided dice for random elements. ''Traveller'' has been featured in a few novels and at least two video games. Plot summary ''The Drenslaar Quest'' is an adventure in which the player characters are approached by a native of Yarhfahl, a world rebelling against the government, to salvage the cargo of the starship ''Drenslaar'', which lies at the bottom of an ocean. The characters will have to first locate the ship, and then safely recover its cargo for the rebels.
