The Uncanny House
''The Uncanny House'' (German: ''Das unheimliche Haus'') is a 1916 German silent mystery film directed by Richard Oswald and starring Werner Krauss, Reinhold Schünzel and Lupu Pick. It was released in three parts.Bock & Bergfelder p.261 The second part was called ''Der chinesische Götze'' and the third ''Freitag, der 13''. The film's sets were designed by the art director Manfred Noa. Richard Oswald
Richard Oswald (5 November 1880 – 11 September 1963) was an Austrian film director, producer, screenwriter, and father of German-American film director Gerd Oswald. Early career Richard Oswald, born in Vienna as Richard W. Ornstein, began his career as an actor on the Viennese stage. He made his film directorial debut at age 34 with ''The Iron Cross'' (1914) and worked a number of times for Jules Greenbaum. In 1916, Oswald set up his own production company in Germany, writing and directing most of his films himself. His pre-1920 efforts include such literary adaptations as ''The Picture of Dorian Gray'' (1917), '' Peer Gynt'' (1919), the once scandalous ''Different from the Others'' (1919) and ''Around the World in Eighty Days'' (1919). Oswald directed nearly 100 films. Some critics have suggested that Oswald was more prolific than talented, but such films as his horror film '' Unheimliche Geschichten'' (1932), produced by no less than Gabriel Pascal, would seem to refute thi ... Emil Rameau
Emil Rameau (born Emil Pulvermacher; 13 August 1878 – 9 September 1957) was a German film and theatre actor, and for many years the deputy artistic director at the Schiller Theater. He appeared in nearly 100 films between 1915 and 1949. Life and career After his graduation from Realschule Rameau got an actor. His first role was Marcellus in ''Julius Caesar'' in Bromberg (today Bydgoszcz in Poland). In 1906 he went to the Schiller Theater in Berlin, where Rameau worked with Leopold Jessner. From 1923 until 1931 he was the vicarious intendant at the Schiller theater. He directed some plays at the Volksbühne. Emil Rameau worked also with Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater. Rameau made his film debut in 1915 and appeared regularly in German silent films, mostly in character roles.
