''The Turmoil'' is a 1924 American silent melodrama film produced and distributed by Universal Pictures and directed by Hobart Henley. It is based on the novel, ''The Turmoil'', by Booth Tarkington. A previous film of the novel, '' The Turmoil'', by Metro Pictures, was released in 1916. Plot As described in a film magazine, James Sheridan, Sr. (Corrigan) has made himself the captain of many industries and the undisputed financial king of his city. He wants his three sons to be like him. Jim, Jr. (von Eltz), is willing. Roscoe (Hearn) is too willing, if he is to be happy with his passionate, selfish, trouble-making wife, Sybil (Percy). Bibbs (Hackathorne) is entirely unwilling. He is of a poetic nature and cares little for industry. Another family, high in social position but low in finances, lives near the Sheridans. There comes a point when Mary Vertrees (Boardman), the daughter, finds it necessary to seek a marriage with Jim Sheridan, Jr., to save the family name from financial ...

Hobart Henley (born Hess Manassah Henle; November 23, 1887 – May 22, 1964) was an American silent film actor, Film director, director, screenwriter and producer. He was involved in over 60 films either as an actor or director or both in his twenty-year career, between 1914 and 1934 when he retired from filmmaking. Early life Henley was born Hess Manassah Henle in Louisville, Kentucky, to Samuel Henle, a German immigrant and retailer, and his wife Clementine. His father moved the family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Henley later attended and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Career Henley began his career as a stage actor, then moved to acting in silent films. He began dual duties of directing and acting in such films as ''The Gay Old Dog'' for Pathé in 1919. Eileen Percy
Eileen Percy (August 1902 – 29 July 1973) was an Irish-born American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1917 and 1933. Biography Born in Belfast in August 1902, Percy lived in Brooklyn, New York, briefly in 1903 before returning to Belfast. She came back to Brooklyn at age nine, entering a convent there. After graduating from the convent, she became a model for artists, including Charles Dana Gibson. Some of the pictures for which she posed were used for magazine covers. After her film career ended, Percy became a staff correspondent for the ''Pittsburgh Post-Gazette''. In 1919, Percy married Ulrich Busch. They divorced in 1930. Her second husband from 1936 was songwriter Harry Ruby. She died in Los Angeles, California, in 1973. Her remains are buried at Chapel of the Pines Crematory.
