The Trial Of Mary Dugan (1931 Film)
''The Trial of Mary Dugan'' (Spanish:''El proceso de Mary Dugan''; French:''Le procès de Mary Dugan'') is a 1931 American drama film directed by Marcel De Sano and Gregorio Martínez Sierra and starring José Crespo, Adrienne D'Ambricourt and Juan de Landa. It is based on Bayard Veiller's play ''The Trial of Mary Dugan''. The film is a Spanish-language version of the 1929 hit ''The Trial of Mary Dugan''. It was decided by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to remake the film for the Spanish market rather than subtitle or dub it as it contained long periods of static talking during the courtroom scenes.Jarvinen p.45 French and German versions were also made. Cedric Gibbons
Austin Cedric Gibbons (March 23, 1890 – July 26, 1960) was an Irish-American art director for the film industry. He also made a significant contribution to motion picture theater architecture from the 1930s to 1950s. Gibbons designed the Oscar statuette in 1928, but tasked the sculpting to George Stanley, a Los Angeles artist. He was nominated 39 times for the Academy Award for Best Production Design and won the Oscar 11 times, both of which are records. Julio Villarreal (7 December 1885 – 4 August 1958) was a Spanish actor who later settled and worked in Mexico. Early life Romualdo Tirado was born in Quintanar de la Orden (Spain) on September 3, 1880. Orphaned from an early age, Romualdo began working as a child entertainer for the Juan Bosch Compañía Infantil, touring Spain and Latin America. Rafael Félix Rivelles Guillén (23 December 1898 — 3 December 1971) was a Spanish actor born in El Cabañal (El Cabanyal), a small town in the province of Valencia, Spain. Son of play actor José Rivelles and play actress Amparo Guillén, he was the father of famous Spanish star Amparo Rivelles. In the 1930s, with the advent of talking films, he went to Hollywood to make Spanish-language versions of American films, but eventually came back to Spain. Francisco Pascasio Moreno (May 31, 1852 – November 22, 1919) was a prominent explorer and academic in Argentina, where he is usually referred to as ''Perito'' Moreno (''perito'' means "specialist, expert"). Perito Moreno has been credited as one of the most influential figures in the Argentine incorporation of large parts of Patagonia and its subsequent development.
