The Train Is Coming
"The Train Is Coming" is a 1966 single by Jamaican musician Ken Boothe, and one of Boothe's earliest successful songs. It was written by Boothe and Coxsone Dodd. The 1966 version was backed by The Wailers. In 1995 Boothe re-worked a version of the song with recording artist Shaggy, and that version was used in the soundtrack for the film ''Money Train''. The British reggae band UB40 covered the song as a UK single, which is included on their album '' Labour of Love III''. UK chart positions The Shaggy version reached 21 in 1996, staying in the chart for five weeks. Kenneth George Boothe OD (born 22 March 1948) is a Jamaican vocalist known for his distinctive vibrato and timbre. Boothe achieved an international reputation as one of Jamaica's finest vocalists through a series of crossover hits that appealed to both reggae fans and mainstream audiences. Biography Ken Boothe was born in Denham Town, Kingston. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Coxsone Dodd
Clement Seymour "Coxsone" Dodd (26 January 1932 – 4 May 2004) was a Jamaican record producer who was influential in the development of ska and reggae in the 1950s, 1960s and beyond. He was nicknamed "Coxsone" at school due to his talent as a cricketer (his friends compared him to Alec Coxon, a member of the 1940s Yorkshire County Cricket Club team). Biography The Kingston-born Dodd used to play records to the customers in his parents' shop. During a spell in the American South he became familiar with the rhythm and blues music popular there at the time. In 1954, back in Jamaica, he set up the Downbeat Sound System, being the owner of an amplifier, a turntable, and some US records, which he would import from New Orleans and Miami.
