''The Towers of Toron'' is a 1964 science fantasy novel by Samuel R. Delany, and is the second novel in the " Fall of the Towers" trilogy. The novel was originally published as Ace Double F-261, together with ''The Lunar Eye'' by Robert Moore Williams. Robert Moore Williams (June 19, 1907 – May 12, 1977) was an American writer, primarily of science fiction. Pseudonyms included John S Browning, H. H. Harmon, Russell Storm and E. K. Jarvis (a house name). Williams was born in Farmington, Missouri. He graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism in 1931."Meet the Authors", ''Amazing Stories'', June 1938, p.6 His first published story was "Zero as a Limit", which appeared in ''Astounding Science Fiction'' in 1937, under the pseudonym of "Robert Moore". List Of Ace Double Novels
American company Ace Books began publishing genre fiction starting in 1952. Initially these were mostly in tête-bêche format with the ends of the two parts meeting in the middle and with a divider between them which functioned as the rear cover of both (the two parts were oriented upside-down with respect to each other in order to effect this), but the company also published some single volumes during the early years. The proportion of singles increased until they stopped producing doubles about 1978. The tête-bêche format was discarded in 1973, but future double novels were continued for a while with both parts oriented the same way, so that the first page of one part followed soon after the last page of the other part. Between 1952 and 1968, the books had a letter-series identifier; after that date they were given five-digit numeric serial numbers. City Of A Thousand Suns
''City of a Thousand Suns'' is a 1965 science fantasy novel by American writer Samuel R. Delany, the final novel in the '' Fall of the Towers'' trilogy. As in the other two books, the setting is the post-apocalyptic empire of Toromon, confined by a surrounding "Barrier" of highly-radioactive land, and inhabited by mutant/evolved "forest people" (some of whom are telepaths) and devolved "neanderthals", as well as normal humans. The events of the book focus on a claimed war. Soldiers are told repeatedly "we have an enemy behind the barrier" and placed in coffin-like modules to be teleported into enemy territory to do battle. However, it turns out that the matter transporter or teleportation system has never worked, and the war is a hoax. The soldiers are wired into a computer prior to their "teleportation" experience but remain in their coffins.
