The Torch (film)
''The Torch'' ( es, Del odio nace el amor, meaning "love is born from hate") is a 1950 Mexican/American film directed by Emilio Fernández. The film is a remake of '' Enamorada'' (1946) and is also known as ''Bandit General'' in the United Kingdom. The original script is based on William Shakespeare's ''The Taming of the Shrew''. Plot The Mexican revolutionary general José Juan Reyes and his men take over the small town of Cholula, Puebla and steal money from the rich men there to fund the revolution. Emilio Fernández
Emilio "El Indio" Fernández Romo (; 26 March 1904 – 6 October 1986) was a Mexican film director, actor and screenwriter. He was one of the most prolific film directors of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. He is best known for his work as director of the film ''María Candelaria'' (1944), which won the Palme d'Or award at the 1946 Cannes Film Festival. As an actor, he worked in numerous film productions in Mexico and in Hollywood. Early life Born in Sabinas, Coahuila, on 26 March 1904, Emilio Fernández Romo was the son of a revolutionary general, while his mother was a descendant of Kickapoo Indians. Eagle-Lion Films Films
Eagle-Lion Films was a British-American film production company owned by J. Arthur Rank intended to distribute British productions in the United States. In 1947, it acquired Robert R. Young's PRC Pictures, a small American production company, to produce low-budget features to accompany its British releases. The studio, which was located at 7324 Santa Monica Boulevard (one block away from the Samuel Goldwyn Studios), became a producer of B-movies. Eagle-Lion was also a film distribution company under the name of Eagle-Lion Distributors Limited in the United Kingdom and Eagle-Lion Films Inc. in the United States.
