Three Brothers (1944 Film)
''Three Brothers'' is part of the Private Snafu series of animated shorts produced by Warner Bros. during World War II. Screened for troops in September 1944, the cartoon was directed by Friz Freleng and features the familiar voice of Mel Blanc. A series of cartoons for the Navy featuring Private Snafu's brother "Seaman Tarfu" were planned, but the war came to a close and the project never materialized, save for a single cartoon entitled Private Snafu Presents Seaman Tarfu in the Navy. Plot Private Snafu is seen performing the tedious task of sorting boots. Driven to madness by boredom he is taken to visit his brothers, Seaman Tarfu and Fubar by the gruff Technical Fairy, First Class, somewhat in the spirit of Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas. ''Three Brothers'' was a small wooden Great Lakes lumber freighter built in 1888 by the Milwaukee Shipyard Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the Chicago-based John Spry Lumber Company. Originally she was christened as the ''May Durr'' and bearing the official number 91998. The vessel was rated at 582 gross tons, 444 net tons, and measured in length, had a beam and a draught of . O'Brien Island is a small rocky island in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. It lies south-west of Aspland Island and rises to 540 m. A strong marine channel, named Tasman Rip, runs between O'Brien Island and Eadie Island. The name dates back to the survey of the South Shetlands carried out by Edward Bransfield and William Smith in 1820, when it was applied to O'Brien, Eadie and Aspland Islands as a group. Eadie Island
Eadie Island is an island long which lies between Aspland Island and O'Brien Island, in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. A strong marine channel, named Tasman Rip, runs between Eadie Island and O'Brien Island. The island was first charted with its neighbours in February 1820, as the three 'O'Brien Islands', during a survey of the South Shetlands carried out by Edward Bransfield and William Smith (mariner). A year later they were rediscovered by a Russian expedition under Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, who used the name "Ostrova Tri Brata" (Three Brothers) for the present Aspland, Eadie and O'Brien Islands. Eadie Island was then named for the dockyard manager of the Melbourne Harbor Trust of Williamstown, Australia, by Lieutenant L. C. Aspland Island is a small island west of Gibbs Island in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. The name dates back to at least 1821. Moonlight Point () is the northwest point of Aspland Island. It was so named by a Joint Services Expedition to the Elephant Island Group (JSEEIG) party canoeing from O'Brien Island to Aspland Island on January 3, 1977, because the point appeared silhouetted against a full moon. The name was approved by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1980. Three Brothers is a 7,303-foot-elevation (2,226 meter) triple-peak mountain summit located in Chelan County of Washington state. It is situated 1.3 miles east of Navaho Peak, on the boundary of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, on land managed by Wenatchee National Forest.
