The Thief (hotel)
The Thief is a luxury waterfront hotel located on Landgangen 1 on the islet of Tjuvholmen (Thief Islet) in Oslo, Norway, designed by the award-winning Mellbye Architects. The hotel opened on January 9, 2013, and is currently the only hotel designated as a Design Hotel in Norway. The Thief has 119 rooms and is a part of the Nordic Hotels & Resort chain owned by Forbes-billionaire Petter Stordalen. It is situated right next to the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, and thanks to a collaboration between the two, there is a large collection of contemporary art in the hotel. According to press reports, the hotel owned by Tjuvholmen KS had a price tag of 720 million NOK, giving each of the 119 rooms an average cost price of more than one million dollars. Tjuvholmen
Tjuvholmen is a neighborhood in the borough Majorstuen in Oslo, Norway. It is located on a peninsula sticking out from Aker Brygge into the Oslofjord. It is located east of Filipstad and south of Vika. At the tip of the peninsula, next to the sculpture park, is an outdoor bathing area. The water leads out to the Inner Oslofjord. The area was bought by the shipyard Akers Mekaniske Verksted in the mid 19th century, who planned to build a drydock there. Instead, it was bought by the municipality in 1914, and transferred to the port authority in 1919. They built docks and artificial land, increasing the area from . From the 1960s, Fred. Olsen & Co. rented the docks, and from 1971 Nylands Mekaniske Verkstad had a shipyard on the spot. Since 1982, the area has been used for office space, terminals, and warehouses. Fiona Banner (born 1966), also known as The Vanity Press is a British artist. Her work encompasses sculpture, drawing, installation and text, and demonstrates a long-standing fascination with the emblem of fighter aircraft and their role within culture and especially as presented on film. She is well known for her early works in the form of 'wordscapes', written transcriptions of the frame-by-frame action in Hollywood war films, including Top Gun and Apocalypse Now. Kjell Nupen
Kjell Nupen (September 5, 1955 – March 12, 2014) was a Norwegian contemporary artist. He was a painter, sculptor and graphic artist. Early years Kjell Nupen had his professional breakthrough very early. At just 17 years old, he was admitted to Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts. Since he was believed to be 18, his admission caused some difficulties but he finally could start after being given an exemption. Magne Furuholmen (born 1 November 1962) is a Norwegian musician and visual artist. He was named Knight First Class of the Order of St. Olav by King Harald for his services to Norwegian music and his international success. Richard Prince (born 1949) is an American painter and photographer. In the mid-1970s, Prince made drawings and painterly collages that he has since disowned. Sir Peter Thomas Blake (born 25 June 1932) is an English pop artist. He co-created the sleeve design for the Beatles' album ''Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band''. His other works include the covers for two of The Who's albums, the cover of the Band Aid (band), Band Aid single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", and the Live Aid concert poster.
