The Thaw (TV Series)
''The Thaw'' (russian: Оттепель, Ottepel) is a Russian television series which debuted in 2013. Valery Todorovsky debuted as a TV director with it. The series is a melodrama about life in the Soviet Union during the Khrushchev Thaw, specifically about film artists of the age. Relational is that Todorovsky's father worked on film in roughly this era. In the West the series has been compared to ''Mad Men'' in terms of tone and visuals, though the subject and plots are quite different. Plot The series is set in 1961. Cameraman Viktor Khrustalyov is in a difficult situation; he is suspected of being involved in the death of his friend, talented screenwriter Kostya Parshin, who committed suicide during a drinking-bout. The authorities try to put Khrustalyov in prison by any means. Valery Petrovich Todorovsky (russian: Вале́рий Петро́вич Тодоро́вский; born 9 May 1962, in Odessa) is a Russian film director, screenwriter, TV producer whose best known film is '' Hipsters'' (2008). He is the son of Pyotr Todorovsky. Larisa Ivanovna Malevannaya (russian: Лари́са Ива́новна Малева́нная) is a Russian film and theater actress, theater director, and writer. Biography and career Malevannaya was born on January 22, 1939, in the village of Fedorovka Neklinovsky District of Rostov Oblast. Initially, she graduated from a pedagogical institute and only after that she went to study at a theater academy. In 1965 Malevannaya graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (directing course of Alexander Musil and acting course of Arkady Katzman). The Golden Eagle Award (russian: link=no, премия Золотой Орёл) is an award given by the National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Russia to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry, directors, actors, and writers. Modelled after the American Golden Globe Awards, the formal ceremony at which the awards are presented is one of the most prominent award ceremonies in Russia, alongside the Nika Award. Tatiana Yevgenyevna Samoilova (russian: link=no, Татья́на Евге́ньевна Само́йлова; 4 May 1934 – 4 May 2014) was a Soviet and Russian film actress best known for her lead role in ''The Cranes Are Flying'' (1957).
