''The Tempest'' is a 1908 British-made silent film directed by film pioneer Percy Stow who specialised in trick photography. The 'delightful'Richard Abel (ed''Encyclopedia of Early Cinema'' Routledge (2005) - Google Books p. 613 film was made by the Clarendon Film Company founded by Stow and Henry Vassal Lawley. It was written by Langford Reed and was the second screen adaptation of William Shakespeare's ''The Tempest'', the first being when Charles Urban filmed the opening storm sequence of Herbert Beerbohm Tree's stage version at Her Majesty's Theatre in 1905 for a -minute ''flicker''. Stow's film can be said to be the first cinematic version designed specifically for film and in its 12 minute length manages to convey some of the magic of Shakespeare's play.Trevor R. ''The Tempest'' is a Shakespeare's plays, play by William Shakespeare, probably written in 1610–1611, and thought to be one of the last plays that he wrote alone. After the first scene, which takes place on a ship at sea during a tempest, the rest of the story is set on a remote island, where Prospero, a complex and contradictory character, lives with his daughter Miranda (The Tempest), Miranda, and his two servants: Caliban, a savage monster figure, and Ariel (The Tempest), Ariel, an airy spirit. The play contains music and songs that evoke the spirit of enchantment on the island. It explores many themes, including Magic (supernatural), magic, betrayal, revenge, and family. Ferdinand is the prince of Naples and the son of Alonso, the King of Naples, in William Shakespeare, Shakespeare's play, ''The Tempest''. He falls in love with Miranda (The Tempest), Miranda. Judith Buchanan
Judith Ruth Buchanan (born 1967) is a British academic specialising in Early Modern literature and film studies. Since October 2019, she has been Master of St Peter's College, Oxford. Biography Buchanan undertook postgraduate research in early Modern literature at the University of Oxford. She took a break from her doctorate to study film in New York, United States, as a Fulbright Scholar. She later returned to Oxford and completed her Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree. A jump cut is a cut (transition), cut in film editing in which a single continuous sequential shot of a subject is broken into two parts, with a piece of footage being removed in order to render the effect of jumping forward in time. Camera positions of the subject in the remaining pieces of footage of the sequence should vary only slightly in order to achieve the effect. It is a manipulation of temporal space using the duration of a single shot, and fracturing the duration to move the audience ahead. Marie-Georges-Jean Méliès (; ; 8 December 1861 – 21 January 1938) was a French illusionist, actor, and film director. He led many technical and narrative developments in the earliest days of cinema.
