The Telnyuk Sisters
The Telnyuk Sisters ( uk, ТЕЛЬНЮК: Сестри) are a Ukrainian vocal duo composed of Lesya and Halya Telnyuk. They were awarded the Vasyl Stus Prize for the preservation and promotion of the Ukrainian culture. They have also been awarded the People's Artist of Ukraine prize. Early life Ukrainians Lesya and Halya Telnyuk began composing at the age of 13. They created rock ballads, elegies, and songs for choral performances based on the verses of classic Ukrainian poets. They began their first serious attempt at arranging their own songs with composer Alexander Melnyk. They then began their professional music career in the year 1986. Career timeline In 1987, one year after their debut, the sisters became the laureates of the national competition "New Names". They won multiple awards at the first and second "Chervona Ruta" festivals in 1989 and 1991 with songs based on the verse of Pavlo Tychyna. Komu Vnyz ( uk, Кому Вниз, ) is a Ukrainian rock band founded in 1988. Komu Vnyz's music is a blend of gothic and industrial styles, combined with the lyrics of ancient Ukrainian legends. The band name is a '' perestroika''-era derogatory pun on the word "Communism". It is literally translated as "Who needs to go down". History Komu Vnyz got its start in the year 1988. Unknown young actor Andriy Sereda and educator Volodyslav Makarov worked together in the same theater. Sereda and Makarov joined with three more artists ( Serhiy Stepanenko, Yevhen Razin, Volodyslav Maliuhin) to make Komu Vnyz. They wound up at their first festival Chervona Ruta completely by chance. Viktor Andriyovych Yushchenko ( uk, Віктор Андрійович Ющенко, ; born 23 February 1954) is a Ukrainian politician who was the third president of Ukraine from 23 January 2005 to 25 February 2010. As an informal leader of the Ukrainian opposition coalition, he was one of the two main candidates in the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election. Dead Rooster or Mertvy Piven ( uk, Мертвий Півень) was a Ukrainian rock band that was formed by Lyubomyr Futorsky in 1989. The first concert was given in 1990 at the first Vyvykh festival. Their debut album ''Eto'' was recorded in 1991, at the end of the Chervona Ruta festival ( Chervona Ruta), where the group took first prize in the category of performers art songs. Dead Rooster began as an acoustic band. During the second half of the 1990s, they evolved into a grunge/art-rock band, though their music can't be described by one particular style. Bohdan Ihor Antonych ( uk, Богдан-Ігор Антонич; 5 October 1909, in Nowica – 6 July 1937, in Lviv) was a 20th-century Ukrainian poet. In 1934 Antonych received third prize honours from the Ivan Franko Society of Writers and Journalists for his work ''Three Signet Rings''. Biography Antonych was born and raised in the Lemko village of Nowica where his father, Vasyl, was a parish priest. In 1928 Antonych left Nowica to study at Lviv University, where he remained until he received his degree in Slavic studies in 1933. In order to help finance his chosen career of professional writer, he occasionally worked as an editor for journals such as ''Dazhboh'' and ''Karby''. Antonych died from pneumonia on 6 July 1937.
